We enjoyed everything about our lunch...delicious food, extensive menu, friendly and efficient staff. Topping it off, we liked the historic and charming building. Itâs one of those unique places where Iâd like to dine every day for a couple of weeks.

Yes, this is the experience you want for real New Mexican food. Many places have toned down versions, of Tex-Mex, Cali-Mex, or more fast food style. The salsa here is hot (Jalapeños) as is the Hatch green chili, so be ready for hot, not mild-to-medium but billed as "hot." Expect some in the party may complain. BTW best sopapillas I have had in a long time, very light and papery. Also, my wife had a Margherita that was not watered down. Have one, if you have two consider giving up the car keys.Classic very old building, re-tooled for the modern era. Enter the parking lot via a driveway east of the building, walk back to the street front but on the west side to enter.

Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Iguana Cafe and Cantina! Delight in our Hilton buffet or a la carte breakfast options. For lunch and dinner, savor Mexican entrées such as Tacos, Enchiladas, Fish, Fajitas and Burritos alongside our rich and flavorful
We stayed at the Hilton Buffalo Thunder and, as a HH Diamond, we received breakfast. The comp was $41 for the two of us which covered the buffet. Everything you need and nicely served. We could have ordered from the menu but the buffet worked out perfectly.

Stopped at this unassuming place and had a fine bowl of green chile with ground meat and beans. The sopapillas here are among the best I've had anywhere. Made with whole wheat flour and not greasy, this is what New Mexican cuisine is all about. I sat at the counter and chatted with the friendly waitress. Place seems to primarily cater to locals, but I suggest you stop here rather than some franchise place or one of the casinos.

Gabriel's used to be very special. But, sadly, it has declined. A lot. Instead of feeling like an oasis tucked away just outside of Santa Fe, it feels like a dusty pit-stop. The waitstaff is ardent, but untrained. There aren't any special details that would make it worth stopping. So, don't waste a meal at Gabriel's. Keep on driving... somewhere else.

"This is true New Mexican food. The best sopaipillas around. This is where the locals eat".
I made sure to stop here on my way by because I had read about it in my online newsletter "Only in New Mexico". It is well worth the stop.
