McKinleyville is located 5.25 miles (8.4 km) north of Arcata, at an elevation of 141 feet (43 m). The population was 15,177 at the 2010 census, up from 13,599 at the 2000 census. This unincorporated community is the third largest community, after Eureka and Arcata, on the far North Coast and larger than five of seven cities in the county. It is also the location of the Arcata-Eureka Airport, the largest airport in Humboldt County and the region.

Whenever we visit Arcata, Rita's is always on our list of places to go. Had a custom chorizo, cheese, rice and beans burrito last night and it was outstanding. Margaritas are wonderful and the price for the food and drinks is very reasonable. Great place.

We came back to Carmella's again (every time we're in Arcata!) to enjoy more of their veg-friendly menu of big, delicious portions in their big restaurant with friendly and efficient service. I again got their large huarache plate with nopales, black beans, and ample yumminess!

Our son, grad student at HSU, took us to his favorite restaurant. A family run restaurant, the Valley Azteca serves a wide variety of foods(including mole), and everything is fresh.It's located in a strip mall, but right next t the Hampton Inn where we stayed(and near all the other motels in Arcata(BW, HoJos, Motel 6).This place is a sure bet for a satisfying Mexican meal, and is know to be the best Mexican restaurant in the area.

Besides having excellent Mexican fare, these guys also play around with non-standard dishes but in a Mexican style. The Tacos fajita milaneas were superb, Mexican indeed but with a European slant. Attentive waitstaff. Good value. What's not to like?

On the road, we found this restaurant because it was right across the street from our motel. We were there on a Monday night so it wasn't busy. I had the carnitas tostada. The carnitas were great, so tasty. My husband the mole wet burrito. He ate every last bit of it. We love mole, this was just a little too sweet for my taste but still very good. I had a very big, good margarita & he had a half pitcher of beer. We left the restaurant full & very happy with our choices. Very good eats on a budget. We will be traveling through Arcata more often so we will make sure we stop for either lunch or dinner.

This family operated restaurant is roomy and nice. the bar has a sports tv screen and the booths are great for a couple or family to eat comfortably and have a conversation. The prices are reasonable and the drinks not overpriced. Several house specialties are excellent and the service is always friendly and attentive. There are larger tables for groups and a second bar in hte back for those who just want to stop by for a drink

Just wanted to stop in for a quick bite before heading to the airport for our flight out. You can't go wrong eating at Taco Bell since it's a huge chain with the same menu everywhere. Service was friendly and fast. There were actually plenty of clean tables! This is something we have noticed that gets neglected at alot of other fast food places.

It's hard to believe that such a great place is actually inside the gas station, but that seems to be the way of fun secret places these days, right? So go into the Chevron station and order a chile relleno burrito, or one of the other amazing choices, and settle down to one of the tables (yes, still inside the gas station!) to enjoy your meal. Reasonably priced and delicious.

We needed a place to meet for lunch following a morning business meeting so the two of us popped in to Carmela's in McK. We were immediately greeted by a helpful waiter who brought us water and chips with salsa. Our orders were taken promptly and our food served in a timely manner. I had their ceviche, which I love - it is a generous portion served on a crisp tortilla with avocado, cilantro and lime wedges. I added a soft grilled chicken taco to have a bit more to eat. Everything was fresh and delicious, as always. Though I had meat today, I am grateful to them for offering a tofu substitute for pretty much everything they put together. A wonderful fair-priced, great-service local Mexican option!
