Mazunte is a small beach town on the Pacific coast in Oaxaca, Mexico (15°39′53″N 96°33′14″W / 15.66485°N 96.55388°W / 15.66485; -96.55388). It is located 22 km southwest of San Pedro Pochutla on coastal Highway 200. Mazunte is located some 10 km to the west of Puerto Angel and just about 1 km from San Agustinillo and 264 km south of the capital of Oaxaca. There are two etymologies for the name. Some sources state that “Mazunte” is derived from a Nahuatl phrase, “maxotetia” which means “please deposit eggs here.” However, older residents of the community state that it is from the word “mizontle,” used by locals to refer to a crab species that used to be very abundant in the area.

I was looking for a place to eat lunch and ended up all the way at the end of the village without being able to find anything open and decent. So I ate here. It was not good at all. The watermelon water tasted sour and spoiled. I asked them to change it which they did. The main dish (something with shrimp) was mediocre. I would not recommend coming here.

We ended up having lunch here by accident (nice surf spot in front). Great cebiche, good chicken soup, outstanding tuna tostadas. We had canilla ice cream and crepes for dessert and loved them.Service is good and courteous, but slow (in synch with the site relax vive)

The location for lunch or dinner is great. Very relaxed beachfront restaurant. The fish is really something to order. The guacamole is also well prepared for a snack or starter. Mojitos are well made and not too sugary like the "2 for 1" promotional options at other places. The hamburger is awesome as well.

Octopus resembled rubber, fries were greasy and anemic, mango margueritas were tasty but missing Tequila. Seaside location and service were redeeming features, though not enough to bring us back.

Iâve been coming to Zipolite for a few months a year for the last 3 years, but I hadnât visited La Providencia. Itâs not far, maybe 100 meters from where Iâm staying this year, literally across the street. I was invited by some friends (reservations are required) and there were five of us all told. It was worth the wait, to say the least!!Itâs only open at night, in a fairly secluded spot, nice and quiet, lots of trees, so the âwallsâ are nice and green, like fine dining in a âjunglesqueâ setting. The food and service were nothing short of Excellent in every respect. I had the tuna in a balsamic reduction, and we shared the coconut shrimp entree as an appetizer. Absolutely delicious!!! I also had bites of a great filet mignon, and chocolates mousse for dessert. Mojitos were 5 star, and I will definitely be making the 100 meter trek back to La Providencia very soon. Treat yourself, life is short!

Even though we stayed in Mazunte over 3 months, we discovered this restaurant close the end of our stay. We shared a delicious Pizza. 1 pizza for 2 persons was more than enough. It's wood oven cooked and really good. Service was friendly and Rafa the owner came by to say hi and see that we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is decorated with many flags from different countries where Rafa traveled to Surf. He is a Surf maniac. In the corner a TV plays Surf videos. Very good experience overall! We recommand this restaurant.Thanks alot for your visit to La Empanada , for us is very nice to hear that you had a good time with us and that you enjoyed what the Pacific ocean can offer , waves, sunsets, good friends Hope to see you back soon in mermejita beach .Cheers

TA gave this high ratings for one of the top cheap places for breakfast. This is more of a bar, hang out with good food then a restaurant. They don't open till 12pm so breakfast is not happening. Ate breakfast here twice, once had Mexican eggs and the second time had to have one of their waffles. Homemade wheat bread with peanut butter or jam is the best. Fresh juices and an ocean view. And that is just breakfast. Come back at night for some great pasta, fish or steak. And the accommodations upstairs are some of the best in San Agustinillo.
