One of those places you just happen into and find more than you expected. On a busy corner, open-air order counter, inside seating. Constant flow of local traffic. Open later than most spots of its genre. Extremely friendly service. Food cooked as ordered. Ate there two nights - burrito one night, a house-special quesadilla the other. Both very tasty and served with a selection of additions: jalapenos (not common in Machala), sour cream, avocado in spreadable form, etc.

Chilis has really cut some corners since 2005. In the last 10 years, many portions have shrunk 20-40%, the waiters have to bus their own tables, handle your food and also clean the floor. Yet, the prices have risen 20-40%. If service were increased along with the pricing -- that might be acceptable. But with food portions significantly reduced and prices significantly raised, I can't recommend Chilis at all anymore. It's gone from the middle range to high-middle experience, to a low-middle experience. Most cafeterias are better. On the other hand, if you're really missing "American food", you might enjoy a trip here, but be prepared to spend a minimum of $20 per sandwich due to franchise and food import taxes.
