I'm not from Knoxville, but my son-in-law "knew a place" for great Mexican food. SoKno is not located in a high traffic area, but more like a quiet neighborhood. They were packed for lunch, which I understand is typical. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. I had a Quesadilla with Pollo (seasoned chicken with guacamole) and black bean salad. I was told that this is as much a late nigh bar as a restaurant, and I'm sure it would be a great hangout. The building is nothing spectacular but I would not call it a hole in the wall. The old converted building and furniture, along with the unusual decor/art, are all part of the uniqueness of the business.

This is a nice little place, not much on glitz, but plenty of good food and cold beer. I've been here a few times and have had no problems. It's in east Knoxville which is sorely lacking good Mexican food. Give it a try.
Ate here twice while in the area for business. The referral said it was one of the best Tex-Mex restaurants anywhere and that recommendation was spot on. GREAT margaritas, excellent service, generous servicings of very good food in an authentic setting. What more could you want?

Chuy's Tex-Mex Mexican Restaurant has amazing chips and toppings bar. They also have the best creamy jalapeno dip, for chips made from scratch. My two sons and I order the sizzling combo fajitas with chicken and steak. When our sizzling fajitas combo plate arrived to our table is was warm almost cold. The service and our waiter Gary, was great, but it would have been nice if we had our fajitas combo sizzling hot!

We stopped in for lunch and it was amazing. The margaritas are great, the food was fresh, and our waitress was super nice. I was amazed at the lunch specials and prices, because you still get so much food.

In the heart of downtown Knoxville on s. Gay st where many great places to eat are situated youâll find Babalu. Tapas are fresh and delicious as are tacos. Not a giant menu but whatâs on it kicks butt. Craft beers and speciality cocktails are standard fare. Prices are reasonable and service is good. Thereâs an open kitchen and outdoor seating. Will be there again soon to sample more goodies.Jonboy111, thank you for your five-star review of Babalu! We are happy to hear how much you enjoyed everything! We look forward to seeing you again!!
