Chipotle is usually our 'Go To' place when we've been working all day and I'm too tired to cook. This time, we decided to try the relatively new one across the street from El Cerrito Plaza. We ordered online and it was ready, as ordered when I went up to pay. I didn't notice until I was going out the door that someone had stretched out on one of the long counters by the window and was sleeping! (Ick - sleeping where people will eat?!?) I was so surprised that I waited in my car a few minutes to see how the staff would handle the situation. Uh, well, NOTHING happened - the staff appeared to just let the person stay on top of the counter. Management - you need to do some serious training - and fast. We won't be coming back to this Chipotle. Not appropriately handling the situation is responsible for 2 stars; otherwise, food is fresh and tasty as usual.
I heard about this place at a wonderful local bar, The Mallard Club,: the bartender was getting some tacos that someone brought for her from the truck. The next night as I was eating some tacos from the truck and a young woman told me, " That's the best taco truck in the Bay Area." I was having a lamb taco, a tripe taco and a tongue taco ...all delicious. The women who work the truck beside The Hotsy/Totsy Club are very helpful and give attentive service.
This place is right near the freeway and BART (Del Norte), and even has a couple of parking spaces. The family that runs it is always there, and they are quite friendly. The daughter, who is a young teen, is often in charge of taking orders, and is always really sweet. Their food is authentic and they have a big selection, along with Mexican cokes in bottles. Their tacos are excellent.

Located in a new strip mall, La Lupita is very new and clean looking with interesting wall art. The staff is very friendly and solicitous. However, the food was not very good. (Maybe because it was a Sunday evening.) When evaluating Mexican food, the "gold standard" for my wife and myself is carnitas. My wife ordered the carnitas tacos and I ordered the carnitas super burrito. Unfortunately, the carnitas were dry and tasteless. Interestingly, on the wall were taped pieces of paper and a white board with East Indian food items listed. Apparently, there is an East Indian connection to this restaurant, but we could not find out due to the language issue. We will not return.

We have been to several typical Spanish tapas places, but what distinguishes Fonda is the fact that it is Mexican tapas. Every dish we ordered was very flavorful, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The portions were quite generous -- on average, two tapas were more than enough for each person. As with most tapas restaurants, dishes come out when they are ready, so it is the perfect type of food for sharing as the plates are delivered. The price per dish is not inexpensive, but the quality was high. Trying many dishes is part of the fun. The atmosphere was lively and service was attentive.
Everything is very fresh. I love the options to get brown rice and black beans. My personal fave is the grilled chicken burrito with black beans and guacamole in a whole wheat tortilla.

First you need to know how wildly popular Comal is. If you want to be seated get here early or late. Otherwise you will be waiting for a table for 90 minutes. We started off with margaritas which were good. They were smooth and not sweet. For dinner we had guacamole, chips and salsa trio, duck enchiladas, ceviche, jicama and cucumber, braised brussel sprouts with squash. For dessert we had the flan and the chocolate budin. The enchilada was room temp which we did not send back to have warmed. Actually it was our favorite dish flavor wise. The chocolate budin was good too.

We stopped in after a busy day and were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent. Atmosphere very nice. Spacious. Chips and 2 salsas were brought to the table - one red and one green. Both were quite spicy and fresh. The ceviche was delicious containing not only fish but fruit and vegetables. My husband tried a mole combination dish - 4 moles. It is unique to find a restaurant that has more than one mole, being a blend of many spices. He liked 2 of them. My enchiladas were delicious. After visiting a little with the servers, we asked if it were a chain. It is a sister restaurant to one in Emeryville and one in San Rafael. We have been to the Emeryville restaurant and it is excellent. We definitely will give this one another try.
