Where to eat Mexican food in Carson City: The Best Restaurants and Bars

May 8, 2020 Claudia Navarrete

Find out what Mexican restaurants to try in Carson City. A city of natural beauty, charm, history and western hospitality, this state capital derived its name from Kit Carson, the legendary trapper, scout and explorer. A trip to the city is a living history lesson. One need only jump on the Kit Carson Trail downtown, which passes old mansions, courthouses, a depot and a brewery, to experience a taste of life in the Old West. Also downtown, the State Capitol, built in 1870, offers a look at the birth of Nevada as a state and Carson City as its capital. Other historic landmarks, cultural heritage centers and museums dot the landscape around town, but don't forget your clubs. The city is well-known for the Divine Nine, a group of top-rated area courses designed by pros such as Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller and John Harbottle and set amid the magnificent Sierra Mountains. After a little golf, gambling or sightseeing, spend some down time at the Carson City Hot Springs. You will emerge feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for more exciting endeavors.

This is nice little Mexican restaurant which we had eaten at a while ago and wanted to give it another try. They have a real simple interior décor, very traditional ‘Mexican flavor’ with wall paintings, light yellow colors, brick accent, open kitchen view and great aromas. When we arrived there was one couple at a table who soon left – making us a bit uncomfortable, but soon a Mexican family of 8 with kids arrived, obviously repeat customers. I ordered a Cadillac margarita – not available, only house blended or on the rocks. I opted for the unflavored blended, which was so-so at best…nothing special and heavy lime taste. They have a decent menu with all the regular choices – Terry did get a modified Taco salad with rice & beans only, I chose the Chicken enchiladas – we found the food tasty, hot and large portions, but it was not my best Mexican meal. I will return again probably if in the area. The service was slow even though we were virtually alone, but nice people so it was a tolerable wait. Overall grade is B- !

If you are familiar with Chili's menus, you know they change their fare as often as we should service our cars. (NO disrespect meant) We have always chosen Chili's for the choices and fun of a visit. HOWEVER, this specific venue has an edge over other grill and bar restaurants in Carson City, NV >>>>> SERVICE! Once seated, we had the pleasure to be served by Doug; both personable and professional. Their new White Spinach Queso was a hit, as well as the Balsamic/Citrus vinaigrette on my salad. Good food, great service, that's what it is all about.

Every Saturday this restaurant offers a prime rib dinner to die for! It is the best we have had. It comes on a sizzling plate with a piece of meat that could feed two for sure!! The wait staff is amazing especially Tracy, she is one of our favorites, she always remembers what we order and is just really the best at her job. All the other help is great too!! We have had a variety of additional meals here, not just the Mexican food and they never fail to please, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. But if you want the prime rib get there a little early on Saturday night so you don't miss out!

Francisco owns this restaurant along with one in Minden, and they are both excellent and have the same menu. This one in Carson City is larger than the one in Minden. The service and food are top notch, and it is amazing how Francisco keeps both equal in quality.

Very small, very casual hole in the wall restaurant. Looked like a husband/wife team - and both were super friendly. We decided to eat at one of the two small tables. While we were eating, several groups of people picked up to go orders. We ordered a beef burrito, about $7.00, for lunch for my husband. Enough left over for dinner. I ordered 2 tacos and 2 tamales, $4.00 total and could not finish. Interesting to note...they won't let you pay until you are done with your meal. Food was awesome!Highly recommend!

This place is amazing for breakfast! The homemade basque style chorizo is unbeatable. I recommend the basque burrito with gravy on top, the breakfast quesadilla with gravy and the pork fried steak and eggs. This is the best chorizo and gravy you will ever eat in your life.

This is my third visit. This is a typical Tex-Mex place. Competent food. Brisk service. Average prices.Today, I had the low cal chicken enchiladas and my wife had the small chicken chimichanga. Both were fine. Portions r generous. If you need a hit of Mexican food, then this place will do the trick.Drinking water, including tax and tip, the bill was about $32.

They have tequila tasting on the last Friday of the month and that seems to be quite a draw. There’s also live music on some nights, so that makes the restaurant rather loud. The complimentary chips come with salsa and bean dip. Neither are spicy. My husband’s food was good, but I had possibly the worst chicken I have ever eaten. I thought the term “rubber chicken “ was a joke, but discovered that it actually exists.

Super staff, enormous portions of good Mexican food. Only drawback is that it is located in a casino. I suggest requesting seating further in the restaurant. We sat close to the entrance and the heavy smell of cigarettes was unpleasant. We plan on returning, we come through Carson from time to time so it’s a good meal with quick, easy access off the freeway.5 Stars - Thank you.
