So every once in awhile one finds an excellent restaurant that offers unusual and original dishes. This is that place. Xoconostle which means tuna; a Mexican cactus fruit. Spacious and modern with appealing decor and oh so refreshing Jamaica and rosemary water. Freshly made huitlacoche totopos served with spicy salsa are courtesy of the house. For starters you must try the Huaraches de Tuétano and the Elopozole negro soup which is incredibly smooth, a little spicy and rich in flavor. The pato de mole negro was cooked to perfection and I could have licked the plate because it was so tender and juicy. The pulpo needs work; a little too chewy but washed down with an exceptional bottle of local Santa Elena wine. For dessert it was Texturas de atole and chocolate. Interesting, subtle and delicious. Xoconostle is probably my new favorite place because the service is excellent and the food is delicious, interesting, appealing to the eye and prepared with ingredients that are not your typical Mexican cuisine.

These were the best tacos I ever had - use the offer 4 tacos for 12â¬. The sauces were also pretty spicy and original Mexican style.

Found the place while walking around Aguascalientes Downtown. Seems to be very recently opened. Arrive and time for lunch and was almost empty being Monday and a Little early for Mexico lunchtime. Place is nice, clean and with simple decoration. Service is very good, probably a family run business. But the real thing is food, althought the menu is quite simple, no more tan 15 soups and main dishes, this are very well cooked. Tried the Tortilla Soup following staff recommendation and it's really worthy. Local Chili sauces "salsas" are not to be missed. As son as you arrive they'll put on the table a real "Molcajete made chili sauce" which is Chili, Tomato, Onion and Salt blended over a Stone Mortar. For main dish I had the Tampiqueña Style Steak, a very complete dish which includes not spicy chili stripes (Rajas de poblano), Goat cheese quesadillas and guacamole. If for any reason you are in Aguascalientes, give the place a try. By the way, dinner menu is completely different, must visit againRegards,

The food here is fabulous! The pork Yucatan was perfect and so tender. The lime soup was great also. Unfortunately, they brought by associate the wrong meal, and then told him that pork was chicken. Obviously taking advantage of the fact that he doesn't speak Spanish. They never came back to bring another drink or check on us, and then took a solid 45 minutes to bring our bill.

Best traditional breakfast in the city. Everything here is super homemade from fresh tortillas, to juices, to their complimentary pan dulces. Their breakfast menu is very egg-centric and they serve great omelettes and chilaquiles. Their cafe de olla is out of this world. The place is huge, but there is usually a wait (especially on weekends) so getting there as early as possible is recommended. This is a great place to come with a large group. The location is perfect - in the main plaza of El Encino - can't get much better than that.
