Garlic bread was good but thatâs where it stops.Tapas was served in cold dishes so very quickly became cold. We were brought out 1 dish at a time so had finished some before last one had come out.Calamari were tasteless rubber so we only ate 1 each.Patatas bravas with a very little drizzle of sauce just a great big squeeze of garlic mayo that seems to be put on everything.chicken that tasted just like a chicken stock cube and nothing else. All the food was very salty. Maybe a ploy to get you to buy more drinks?? Although that would require the staff to ask so maybe not.We were never asked if the food was ok whilst we were eating or at time of paying and from what was left it clearly wasnât but never given the chance to say.Over priced food of terrible quality. Worst tapas I have ever eaten!! We wonât be returning and wonât be recommending to anyone. So sorry you had a bad experience with us. Had you let us know at the time we could have rectified the situation. Thankyou for the constructive criticism.....enjoy where you eat in future.

Having walked past quite a few times over the years we thought we would give it ago and we were impressed. I have penne chicken while my wife had lasagne which were both incredible as we both agreed and tasted one another's. The service was amazing and we will definitely be back again soon.

Went here pre-theatre so it was pretty quiet so the service was good. Food was excellent...a selection of tapas to share. If thereâs a small criticism itâs the ambience. The stone floors and stark furnishings inside make it a very cool, even cold environment which doesnât quite evoke the Mediterranean atmosphere itâs meant to. Winter must be quite chilly in there.

Osteria da paolo has decent food and a short wait considering that we were such a large group who order starters and puddings. The staff a good and the atmosphere is warm and cosy.

Our first time of visiting this restaurant and as we visit Shrewsbury once a year we will definitely be back here. We had the speciality sharing platter for two which was excellent value for money. Everything was well presented, well cooked and very tasty. The waiting staff were very friendly and professional. They found us a table for two on a very busy Saturday night. You need to try here you won't be disappointed.

Lunch menu is small but always interesting; the sandwiches are amazing and nothing like our average expectations of a sandwich. "Proper Lunch" dishes are exciting and imaginative..... I love the belly pork and the rare skirt steak. Very decent pint of Hobson's.

The starter of scallops was very good. Unfortunately the signature dish of fish was overlooked and the rice accomplishment was the most dry awful portion I have ever experienced. My wife is Asian so I know rice!!!!! When I mentioned this to the chef he said he disagreed about the rice. Obviously he doesn't know how to cook rice. The prawn on the dish was also obliterated even asking for all the dishes to be "less cooked".As as a specialist seafood I'm restaurant I'm not impressed and wouldn't recommend.I am really sorry that you havenât enjoyed your main course at La Mer Rouge and our signature dish of fried fillets of bream from the Egyptian cuisine served with fish rice, one of our best selling dishes isnât to your liking, 20 breams were sold that night to our customers whom all really enjoyed it and clearly felt I could cook rice, seems to me that your pallet is used to steamed plain white rice popular in Asian cuisines as our braised fish rice is very Aromatic infused with few herbs, spices, garlic, onions ..etc Hopefully we will see you again at La Mer Rouge maybe on your next anniversary, will cook for you again so rather than feel the need to write a poor review during your romantic evening together you may actually enjoy a different seafood experience to what you used to. We are a genuine family run restaurant, proud to prepare Modern Italian cuisine, we also offer a special six course surprise taster menu where Italian cuisine is taken to a completely new level, bookings essential.
Such a mix of emotions writing this review! On one hand, the food is absolutely delicious and a delight to eat.... on the other hand, it's one of those restaurants where the presentation is more important than satisfying any hunger you might have. The portions are small....and expensive. I go to restaurants to eat and have my hunger satisfied, not have my food entertain me by looking pretty and isolated on oversized plates. We opted for the 4 course taster choice and after we were asked about what we did and didn't like the first course eventually arrived and to be fair it looked delicious, even though it wasn't what I would have ordered I liked it. Beetroot textures basically. Then after around a 15 minute wait for the 2nd course, 3 handmade ravioli filled with some cheese, this hadn't been on the menu so I couldn't tell you what it was, even the waitress didn't know or wouldn't tell us! Very nice though, but we were still hungry. It took about 2 minutes to polish the ravioli off then yet another wait for the main course. I got quite excited when the steak knives came out and I began to hungrily look forward at the prospect of a steak dinner....imagine how crushed I felt when the tiniest cut of steak surrounded by a strip of onion arrived with an unidentified sauce beside it, there is probably just more meat in a Mcburger for comparison.... it is served pink here and was so tender and delicious, definately aged and cooked to perfection, very pretty, very expensive, but not nearly enough to satisfy anyone's hunger. The sweet course was literally the only highlight of the whole meal. Chocolate and raspberry textures, both hot and cold, was delicious and I almost licked the plate! Now, don't get me wrong, the food here is excellent, the staff polite and friendly and the chef obviously takes time and effort to present delicious food....But.....If you're the sort of person that likes to pay a premium price for handmade tasty delightful food and still go home hungry then this is definately the place to come to.If, however, you like to feel like you've had value for money and not as though you need to go home via Pizza hut then maybe you might consider your decision to eat here.To be totally fair to the excellent staff and cuisine here I should have checked more closely as to the style and menu choice on their website, it IS quite clear what you can expect if you book here. All in all, an excellent restaurant, awesome food, waiting times not too bad considering every meal is made to order, BUT...tiny portions which left me still hungry after handing over more than £80.00 (I still left a tip though!!)I wish this restaurant every success in the future but it's unlikely I will rebook, I just like feeling full after a meal is all!!
