Things to do in Santa Pau
This excellent place is the epitome of the Spanish small town bar, populated by lots of locals and lots of tourists, and run by Donna Maria and her family. Excellent value food, and excellent drinks - probably the best place to sit and watch the world go by over a drink in the whole town. Great views from the outdoor terrace, lots of local tapas to try, we'd recommend the olives, the anchovies, and the cured meats sliced straight to your plate.

After a day of hiking through the nearby volcanic park my family and I were tired and hungry. There's not much to Santa Pau, but a local shopkeeper receooemded Can Rafelic as the place for a good meal - an excellent recommendation as it turned out.The fare is regional and hearty, and absolutely delicious. Two adults and three children shared fesols with pork (fesols are a white bean, and a local specialty), stuffed potato skins and manchego cheese to start, and followed up with a meat stew containing rabbit, chicken, pork and sausage that was simple and superb. The bill, including still and sparkling waters and a small carafe of rose came E75.I intend to hike in this region again next year, and I will also return to Can Rafelic.

Incredible food served in a modest setting. I can't say enough about this unassuming spot. The authentic Catalan food and regional specialities are worth seeking out. We had duck, rabbit and pork, all excellently prepared. The cannelloni, salads and gazpacho with cucumber ice cream were excellent starters as well. The desserts were also wonderful. Prices were surprising low as well. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and Check this place out!

Came for lunch without planning it, me feeling very sick in first trimester of pregnancy, not knowing whether I would be able to eat at all, and hell, I did! The owner is lovely, and the food is noticeably local and organic. Try the lamb, probably the best iâve had! Really dont understand any of the negative reviews. Dear mmnikol,Thank you very much for sharing your comment. We are happy to know that You enjoyed your lunch at Cal Sastre Restaurant. We hope to see you again next time.Best regards,Jesus

Reasonably priced and, as the name suggests, THE place to enjoy "fesols" a small white bean that is the local speciality.Excellent staff and reasonably priced and good food.BTW, for those unfamiliar with the "fesol", as with other similar beans, I would not advise eating at night. The decoration is a giant "fesol" plant that, though a little "naive", works.

We'd had a good lunch so didn't want too much to eat. We arrived at just before 9pm and were the first guests. My wide and I shared an excellent tomato salad and asparagus dishes. We both continued with entrantes. My wife had fried potatoes sandwiched with butifarra while I had the canelons. No room for postee but we had fery nice cortados to finish. We dame here because of the great rating in TA. We should come again for a three course meal. We can fully recomemend it. Great value.

is between santa pau and olot in the road GI-524
We stopped here after a hike through the Garrotxa national park and found the place packed on a late Sunday afternoon. The food was really good, quite traditional and the service could not have been better. (Especially considering how busy the place was and our waitresses English matched our Spanish - none!) Anyway, we are big fans of trying new things and everything we got off the menu was good - from seafood dishes to salads to pork dishes. Wash your meal down with a local wine or beer and you have a great way to spend an afternoon.Ps - portions were American size.
