Things to do in Saint Clair Shores
I have been going to Emily's since I was in high school. While we lived away and visited for vacation it was one of the must destinations for us. Now that we have moved back I am happy to know it is close. My daughter is a vegetarian so my buying habits have been slightly altered. The spinach pies are good. I still prefer the meat pies. I also tried a few other items, the chicken pies, herb bread and baklava. I have to say that the baklava was really special, perhaps the best I have ever had. You could taste the rose water used in preparation and it was sweet but not overly sweet. Emily is still cooking everyday as she always has for so many years. Sam runs the place and he's a gruff charmer. This place is a treasure.

I have been to this restaurant many times, it is another local favorite. The staff are friendly and will treat you like family. They serve a variety of authentic Mediterranean foods. I particularly enjoy the chicken swarma sandwich heated along with a fattoush salad for lunch. We constantly grab some stuffed grape leaves and hummus for munching when we go sailing. Reasonably priced food. Enjoy!!

I've lived in St. Clair Shores and continue to visit on a regular basis and yet I had not previously noticed Karas Family Restaurant until I went to look for it. After seeing reviews mentioning great breakfasts and Greek food, I decided to try the place. Serving St. Clair Shores for over 25 years, the small diner was doing brisk business on Saturday, so obviously a local crowd knows exactly where they are. Karas Family Restaurant is located on the east side of Harper, between Erben and Yale, just south of a vehicle glass replacement center. The place is small with booth and counter seating. The kitchen area is compact and it is rather amazing to see three cooks, kitchen help and wait staff moving deftly through the small space with no mishaps. The staff is friendly. The service is prompt and accommodating. In such a small diner, this suggests the Karas Family Restaurant waitresses are used to managing a full house on a regular basis and happily seem to be enjoying this. They work together well. Breakfast is offered all day and the omelet selection is interesting. I tried a small Greek salad with grilled pita and a fried egg sandwich. The salad is served with a bottle of Greek dressing so you can add it as you like. The pita and the sandwich were tasty. This is a family operation. Owned by Lazaros Karavidas and run predominantly by his family, Mom was in the back while her friendly son was at the grill. Some lovely artwork, available for sale, decorates the walls. The cooking area is wonderfully kitschy, festooned with Greek mementosâthe kind of décor that gives a diner its unique color. Karas Family Restaurant has a vintage diner look that the regulars obviously enjoy. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. The hours are 7am to 4pm. I'd like to return to try one of the omelets.

Athenian is just the great place everyone would love to find on own way. Excellent service - their waitresses are fast and extremely accurate. Foods are excellent as well, Greek cuisine is here perfectly represented in quality. Please try their gyros! They're really over the top! Lame skewers are great too....yet the best is the Tsaganaki Cheese they serve flambé at your table! Really you can't miss that!Prices are absolutely friendly, it's a great place where to stop on Harper Avenue!
