This a snack-bar/restaurant with a wide range of options, from sandwiches at less than EUR 3 to octopus - I believe it was EUR 16 (one of two most expensive choices).Slightly more expensive than what I had in Funchal (around EUR 14) but a lot more octopus meat (possibly double in weight) - slight variations in taste when cooked in different places in Madeira, but I'd try it anywhere.Location is good, Porto Moniz is quite small, you can eat outdoors (smoking allowed) or inside (on the upper floor).Good/quick service - worth a stop.
Rustic tipical madeiran bakery, pastry and coffee shop. Wide variety of cakes, drinks and salty snacks.
We went here based on other TripAdvisor reviews. From Porto Moniz, you have to go uphill to Santa. When arriving we did not think that a bakery would be located in this area. At first we could not find it. On a second drive through we found that the bakery is behind a house and under another house that looks like a farm. The terrace and entry is roofed with plastic corrugated sheets. They serve the best pastel da nata we have eaten and very decent coffee. Nice and friendly local people.

A very good place to eat ESPADA - the softest fish you ever tasted. A large restaurant with an efficient team. Hundreds are getting there for lunch and they serve fast and well. The meal is great - Soup, ESPADA fish and fries/ rice, dessert, and unlimited wine. Prices are very low. A real tasty bargain.

Only stopped for a small bite, but the fish soup was very nice, less than 4 euros, others were eating Madeiran fish stew and I overheard them saying it was lovely. Service very good. Seemed quite busy in there. Clean and nice toilets!

I had the shrimp and vegetable rolls. My husband had the chefs choice. Although he loved it at the time he is paying dearly now 36hrs later. Hes pretty sure it was the small bit of octopus that was on top of the rice. He was suspicious of it but ate it anyway. Go with your instinct if you question it then dont eat it! 2 days of vacation wasted in bed.Dear Mrs. CostaFirst of all, be very carefull with your choice of Words... " Food Poisoned"...I regret that you husband didn´t felt good after the meal that he had on our Sea View Rooftop, we had many other guests until today and they all felt good, without any food problems.... including all your husbands family. We do not serve poisoned food... never did... and never will. We take our work very seriously and we always accept every critic and suggestion, and we do our very best to improve day by day always with final goal "our guest satisfaction". Once again very sorry for you husband malaise but we are positive that it didn't any thing to do with the food served in our restaurant.Wish you all the bestFilipe FernandesGeneral Manager

Very friendly staff. Had the limpets for starters. They were nice, but they were grilled in way too much garlic butter. Could hardly taste the limpets. As main we had the selection of fish, which was quite good, although the trout was a bit to dry

My wife and myself are holidaying in Madeira and today - together with 6 fellow passengers - we went on an excellent East Island Tour arranged by Blandy Travel (Review to follow). As part of the tour, we had lunch at the Cachalote Restaurant in the lovely Village of Porto Moniz. This is in a great location (next to the âFortâ Aquarium) and is surrounded by volcanic rock (which has been skilfully turned into several swimming pools) and offers panoramic views of both the spectacular coastline and the sea - including a nearby island.Fortunately, we were one of the first of a number of other Tour Groups to arrive at the property. As such, we were warmly welcomed and shown to a nice table. A variety of drinks (including 2 Bottles of Red & White Wine) weâre already on the table and it wasnât long before we were all enjoying some delicious vegetable soup. The main course (generous portions of chicken or fish) promptly followed and I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken - cooked to perfection. Desert was fresh fruit and ice cream followed by coffee. All in all, it was a most enjoyable lunch and itâs not difficult to see why some many local travel agents opt to use this particular property!

The North Pole Restaurant opened in 1986 and is located in a privileged area of Porto Moniz, in Largo das Pools, the ideal place for a meal after a morning or beach day in the natural pools. Come have lunch or dinner at the North Pole have a terrace with
Stopped for an early dinner Big mistake. I had the tuna steak and my wife had the tuna kebab . My steak was good but the kebab was inedible. She tried 2 chunks but 2nd was no better. I swapped half my steak but could not eat the kebab. Complaint was dealt with very poorly but after 3 attempts they gave us 50% off the kebab. All our change came back in 20 cent pieces. My advice is try somewhere elseBy far worst meal of the holidayDear John B, We do not understand your comment because we do not have Kebab on our menu, or anything that looks like our restaurant.Best regards,Ana Paula CostaGeneral ManagerPolo Norte

Sitting in our light restaurant, with one of the most fascinating views over the Atlantic Ocean, the Breakfast Buffet, as well as the 'a la carte' lunch and dinner, allows our guest to contemplate both the sea and the cliffs along the north coast. Our Res
fantastic dinner with fabulous view of the water. Menu selection is varied from seafood to pasta, all prepared fresh and presented wonderfully. Staff and chef very friendly and knowledgeable. Grilled shrimp, spinach tortellini and mushroom risotto all excellent. Will eat again here this week!

A roadtrip along the coast makes you hungry so we stopped here for a quick lunch. The food seems simple, but tastes great and everything is homemade. We had the toasties on the local garlic bread and some orange juice. Nice view too from their roof terrrace.
