Once again my large group got to experience a truly superb dinner at Il Caminetto.Providing round trip transfer from out hotel in Varenna and then offering up anabundance of food, wine, and conversation. Moreno and Rossella are the consumatehosts! It was a very memorable evening for everyone. If you are visiting Lake Como youshould definitely come here for dinner and also the cooking class. The icing on the cake is that Il Caminetto is a great value.

We had lunch at the restaurant yesterday. Our plan was to walk towards the ferry terminal and head to Bellagio for lunch. However walking past this place we couldnât resist the patio and the views. As per previous reviews there is a set daily menu with only one option for started main course and dessert (there is also a childrenâs menu). It would appear that the place is run by a father and son duo but I will not be surprised if itâs coordinated by mama in the background! We were greeted with complementary Prosecco and and canapé. We dined on rabbit and my daughter had Pasta in tomato sauce which was simple but delicious. A fantastic afternoon. We ended up staying and finishing the delicious bottle of wine! I canât recommend this place enough :-)

A shopkeepper recommended and was spot on. my wife had the ravioli stuffed with minced shrimp specialand i had the lake fish dinner which was 5 filets of different fish with some zucchini and scalloped potato. couple glasses of localwine and total 51 euros.

We were excited to eat here after reading all the fabulous reviews. However, our meal was disappointing. I ordered the lamb stew which was bland and tasteless. My daughter had the fish which was also under seasoned. I will say the artichoke soup was delicious and they were nice enough to split an order for us. The place seemed a bit too pretentious for our taste. The service, while efficient, felt a bit unfriendly. I was hoping for more small trattoria vs fine dining stuffiness and would not return.

Previous reviews said it's hard to find - it's really not - follow the Lugano road from Menaggio to Grandola et Uniti and turn right at the road signposted 'Barcola' - the Gri Turismo is then well signposted. Parking is an issue, I'd recommend parkingbyour hire car in the top car park to the left and walking the 100m down to Barcola. Previous reviews said the service is unfriendly or unattentive - it isn't. They don't speak English so if you insist on speaking English loudly and slowly to them it might p*ss them off but if you make some effort with 'Prego', 'Grazie' and 'Va Bene' then you'll get on fine as the menu is in English (except the specials..but listen out for 'Gnocchi' 'Funghi' 'Lagosto' etc and you won't go terribly wrong.Previous reviews made an issue about rabbits in cages and horse meat on the menu. This is a traditional rural Italian restaurant. If these things bother you don't eat here. We had been recommended Barcola by our AirBnB host as being authentic and recommended the specialities - Gnocchi, Polenta, Ravioli and Truffles so we had the 'Polenta Uncia' with cheese, butter, mushrooms (and roasted garlic....) to start and the 'Gnocchi al Funghi' for my main. My wife had the Pork with Gorgonzola and Walnuts. We didn't finish these dishes and didn't have room for dessert. The food, a quarter litre of wine, a beer, water and 2 coffees came to a pretty reasonable 46 euros. We liked and will be going back

The place is off the water but really where the locals go for a great pizza and a bottle of wine. The place will win no awards for the decoration, but it will for the local charm and the food. A couple of two can obtain an appetizer, wine, and pizza all f
We popped into Menaggio as a lunch stop on the way to Como. Best pizza we've had on holiday, as well as the best tiramisu and great value. It was very traditional/basic inside but we loved this. Great view from the top floor as well. We would go again.

We visited this restaurant when we stayed in Menaggio 2 years ago and, as we were only on a day trip this year, a return visit for lunch was a high priority. We were not disappointed. The location is quiet and pretty. The food, again, was wonderful. I had the lake fish in butter and sage and Picky Partner had the veal with mushrooms which he had and loved on our last visit (and did again). The house wine, in a jug, is very affordable - and very good. We were very happy to return and hope to do so again when we are next in Italy.

Went there tonight with a group of 7. Two in the group ordered the ravioli. When I saw the dish I actually thought it was an appetizer. 5 mini ravioli for over 20 Euros. I mentioned something to our waiter and he blew me off. I had the filet which was fabulous. 3 people had the lobster with lasagna noodles which they enjoyed. Another had sea bass which she enjoyed. The waiter never returned to the table to see if we needed anything. No salad on menu, but we were able to order. Very fresh!Very pricey, but we were warned.Nice lady thank you for the nice review, but i don't understand why you are not satisfied ...you say that the pasta was good, the fillet also and the salad that was not on the menu , good and fresh ...so it became all tragic for the price of ravioli (⬠16?) ...making a complaint about homemade pasta is at least questionable ... fast-food is better?!

We were very excited about eating at this restaurant especially after reading all the reviews. However we really do not think it was worth the trip into the hills. Tables are set out on a very uninspiring courtyard it felt like you were eating in someoneâs garden. Service was excellent but the food was average and disappointing. We ordered the cheeseballs anchor gnocchi to start. The cheeseballs were on a bed of salad that was inedible but the cheese balls were good. The good gnocchi was okay but nothing special. Full names we ordered the beef kebab because so many people had said it was good and we also ordered the chicken Milanese. The chicken was dry and so very average. I have had better so many times before it was served with chips. The beef kebab was nothing to write home about in fact we were so disappointed. Deserts were good but not special. I have had better tiramisu in England. We had to get a taxi from the town Iâm very surprised anyone manage to walk up there as it was quite a journey maybe there was a quicker route but we could not see it. It was an expensive meal for what it was and I certainly wouldnât rush to go back. I just feel I shouldnât have read the reviews because perhaps I was expecting something special and this restaurant is not special.

Welcome to La cucina del pontile! The restaurant, located in a small village in Lake Como, enjoys a breathtaking view, offering unmissable sunsets. Its excellent location is easily accessible by car, bus or ferry. The picturesque promenade along the lake
The view speaks for itself, this is the beautiful part of Lake Como after all! The food is exquisite, interesting dishes home-cooked from fresh ingredients - simple yet full of flavour. A refreshing change from the "standard" Italian menu, and free from all the dressy touches that seem to prevail these days. Service is unobtrusive but efficient; dishes are brought to the table as soon as they are cooked, rather than being kept hanging around on the pass waiting until the whole table can be served together. Some may not like this. The family and staff may appear a bit reserved at first - regulars know better, they are delightful - but you may have to give a smile to get one.And to the reviewer who calls this a bad restaurant because they wouldn't allow his dog in, I can assure you that dogs are allowed in (a fault in my book as I hate to see dogs in restaurants) so there must have been some reason.........I'd suggest a return visit without the dog as you are missing a treat.
