Noon O Kabab

My spouse and I trekked from downtown to this Persian restaurant that was on our list of places to visit. The new restaurant is very pretty with its rotunda and chandelier. The staff was friendly but unorganized. The food was very tasty and portions large. We talked to one of the owners and they conveyed to us that they are still ironing out wrinkles in the new space. That is evident. The trek was worth it.

Top-notch balance of affordability, quality, expertise, accessibility. Nice walking neighborhood, open high-ceiling space with decent noise abatement (a personal plus), excellent and reasonably-priced wine list. Tapas menu is solid, diverse, but not overkill. Fresh prep, good cooking techniques. Postres as good as the frias i calientes. Top marks to the floor staff, especially senior waiter Juan (7pm 8/10/19), who was absolutely on-point: attentive, unpushy, capable of engaging individually and personably, made good and thoughtful recommendations. Floor staff, and Juan in particular, push the rating to a "5". Unmissable.

Kabobi - Persian and Mediterranean Grill

and by loud, i mean really loud--maybe we just hit it at the busiest time possible? anyway, we showed up at i am not sure what time on a sunday evening and the place was jumping. neither me, nor my friend had been there before--we were going based on a recommendation from another friend. when you get inside, there are two counters that say order here and no one that looks like someone who will seat you, so we threw ourselves on the mercy of one of the guys at the order desk, confessed to being newbies and were told that he would seat us with menus and when we were ready, we should come up, place our order, and they would bring the food out to us. (i think that if we were experienced enough to know what we wanted already, we could just order, and then get seated?)it's called kabobi, so we got kabobs--i got a combo that had one ground lamb and one ground beef kabob--my friend got the marinated chicken kabob (i won't try the persian name for fear of misspellings). we had been told that we should definitely spring for the fancy rice choices (an extra $4.95 so we wouldn't necessarily have known it would be worth it)--i got the one with sour cherries, she got the one with cranberries. your kabobs come on enormous pans--the size of a pan i would use to cook a frozen pizza. tons of rice, a grilled tomato, some red onions, and two really good-sized kabobs--way more food than i could eat at one sitting so a delicious lunch or two for later. (i don't know if they charge for shared meals but one pan could definitely feed two people of moderate appetite.) the wait staff was lovely--i can't tell you how many people checked in to make sure we liked our food but it was more than three. we didn't look into the drinks--they supply you with water and later on we had very nice hot black tea. not at all a place for a romantic outing but if you want really good persian food and lots of it, this place is great!
