Reviews on Mediterranean food in Leiden, South Holland Province, The Netherlands. Home to the Netherlands’ oldest university and the birthplace of Rembrandt, Leiden also served as a several-year stop-off between England and the New World for America’s Pilgrim fathers in the early 17th century. Today, lovely Leiden boasts the second-largest Dutch city center after Amsterdam. The National Museum of Antiquities has an impressive collection of Egyptian artifacts. The Hortus Botanicus, established in 1590, was the site of the planting of Holland’s first tulip bulbs in 1593.

Ristorante Pizzeria Karalis is renowned in Leiden and surroundings since 1977. Our menu represents classical Italian dishes, with a strong accent on the island of Sardinia, where we have our roots. Divided over 3 separate rooms we have space for over 200
On a recent visit to Leiden university, our large group went here for dinner after getting some recommendations. With there being so many of us, we didn't bother with starters. Most of us had pizza. I meant to order the ortolana but ended up ordering the one above as it's name ran over onto the next line. This was the rucola pomodoro & parmigiano. It was very nice anyway and gave my first time trying a pizza with 'non oven-baked' ingredients. One that didn't go down well in our group was the Papps e citti - ham, onions, asparagus, olives. It was dripping with oil. Far too greasy. We didn't get pudding as we blew the budget on cocktails - I recommend the 'Hugo!' Although some of the puddings we saw being taken to other tables did make us regret our decision!I'd recommend this place if you're looking for proper Italian food in Leiden - very authentic!

We had a five course dinner, including wine. It's called "All in" on the menu. We thought it to be appropriate, since we had never been before. To be short, we will not be visiting in the near future. The courses were ok, including the complementary stuff like amuse bouches, a "taste cleanser" and such. The rest was ok, no real highlights though. The manchego spunge at dessert was the most noteworthy element, really. The wines were ok. A vinho verde, less sparkling than average, a nice chardonnay with olive tones, a bland languedoc white and a sub-par shiraz from Australia followed by a good sherry from Spain that did not really match well with dessert. The most annoyning part of it all was to be tended by a well meaning but very juvenile girl dressed like she was going to school, whilest the owner was happily having conversation at a table next to us, not giving any attention to what was happening around her. As a result questions went unanswered and we even had to get up to get the bill, really awkward at this level. A saturday night with only four tables filled at a restaurant that can accommodate some twenty, the future does not seem bright for this entrepreneur. But we could be wrong, anyone deserve a chance at redemption.

WE WILL GO BACK AGAIN! This was an amazing restaurant that we just happened upon while driving the maze of streets in central Leiden. On whim we said, let's go eat at the Olive Garden (those who live in the States will understand). Little did we know what
I was thinking this might be The Olive Garden chain from the US but not at all. The food was a piece of art. It was so well presented and delicious. And very reasonably priced for the quality of good. A definite must visit when Iâm Leiden.

I'd ordered a Lamb Tajine and the food was indeed served in a Tajine pot, thats where the quality ended. The dish dish didn't actually have any Tajine spices and was more a french style dish, oregano, tarragon etc. I don't think they should advertise it as Moroccan when it clearly wasn't. Also, there were only a few tiny pieces of lamb. My girlfriend ordered a potato carrot stew and received what appeared to be beans from a tin.The red house wine (Merlot if I recall correctly) was brilliant!Dear,We'd like to let you know that Restaurant Catootje aan de Markt has a new owner since January First this year.We have a small menu consisting of fresh and healthy meals from the French-Moroccan cuisine. We serve the meals in the right paste and with a smile.we also changed the interior in a clean and homely atmosphere. We realise that you wrote this review a long time ago, but we hope you'll give us another chance and will have dinner at Catootje aan de Markt one day.You are more than welcome.Kind regards,Robby AngenentChef and owner Catootje aan de Markt

After youngest daughter job-time, we met her again in Greek Restaurant Delphi, where some waiters recognised us, and served us again friendly and well, with delicious meals. I ordered for wife and daughter the fresh home-made Moussaka (a delight !) and for myself the Filetto Aphrodite. A first commune plate was quickly served "Sikotakia", wich is beefliver aroused in Ouso. It's perfect, as nice accompagned with 1/2 l standard white wine, and sparkling waters. My "girls" full enthousiasm for the food, as I was. As a gift, I've recieved a tiny collection bottle of Ouzo, and once arrived home, I've just prepared the same Sikotakia, even delicious. We both love cooking ourselves, love authentic food, and go on small trips mostly in secial restaurants. Parking is not too far at evening, and the inside of this Greek Delphi is very intimate, as you feel the Greek spirit, hear the nice Sirtaki and other typical music, and we feel there as we were in Greece, continent or some island. We just love this people, and they deserve it. Please, make a reservation. It is mostly crowdly. We paid 78,70 ⬠for us 3. Reasonable and correct. You can pay by bank card. KALISPERA !

I love this place for lunch. My favorite dish is the tartufi with fungi sauce. Also the tiramisu is excellent and the coffee is very good. Itâs tasty Italian food and one of the best little restaurants around.I will definitely return on my next visit to Leiden.

A very âItalian styleâ, cosy and welcoming restaurant. Staff very friendly and pleasant. The menu has a little for anybody, pizza, pasta and salads. I settled for the Ravioli Tartufati, a spinach and ricotta filled ravioli. It was an excellent choice and very tasty. They serve beer or wine and by the glass. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Greek Restaurant With Authentic Dishes From Traditional To Modern Ones. Our Motto Is To Serve Fine Food With Good Service In Greek Modern Atmosphere.
Last weekend we decided last moment to go to Leiden for a day. Normally we like to prepare and see what restaurant to eat at. This time we chose last moment for Rodos (also because some others were closed) and we were positively surprised! The restaurant is very beautiful, cozy but modern at the same time. As it was calm in the restaurant (we arrived around 14.00) the service was amazing and very personal. We had a nice chat with the waiter and (I think) the owner. The food, just great! I can recommend for lunch to take three dishes. We were with two persons (a couple) and took salmon with pita, souvlaki with pita and a kind of pizza/pita with feta cheese. Great choice and we really enjoyed our lunch. Would always recommend to go here when you are in Leiden.
