Here you can clamber up volcanoes like Scalata al Cratere and rejuvenate in the warm and gooey sulfur mud baths of Laghetto di Fanghi. Kayaking is a popular way to take in the beauty of Vulcano’s grottoes and coastlines.

We chanced upon this restaurant after renting a car to drive around the island. At the southern tip of the island is a beach (named the "ultimo paradiso"), 100 metres up the road the restaurant. We were the only guests. The owner/cook advised on antipasti and fish; we chose antipasti (one plate for two, uno per due) and pasta. The antipasti were enough for 4 people, and very good (especially the fish antipasti). The pasta equally excellent with a hint of herbs (basil, mint), walnuts, almonds, parmesan cheese, but we only managed some after all the antipasti. There was no set menu, and no set price, and we ended up paying 70 Euros including local wine and coffee.Food very good, location a problem, as you have to pay some 50 Euros to hire a car or take a taxi, unless you happen to be travelling around the island anyway. Negative: no menu with prices. The owner mentioned they used to be open all year round, but will be closed from now on in the winter months.

A little restaurant in the centre of island. You can eat all in Eolian style. Fresh fish, local meat and vegetables .

There are quite a number of restaurants and cafés in Vulcano, but for one reason or the other we ended up in La Bottega when we stopped over here during our one-day excursion to the Eolian islands. And it was an excellent choice!La Bottega is located in the main street only a couple of minutes both from the harbour and the famous mud baths. We sat on a nice, shaded terrace with lots of plants. The owners were very friendly, and the service fast and attentive. The food was delicious, as was the wine. We had Grillo by the glass, and for starters we ordered neonata (a typical Sicilian speciality of small fried fishes) and carpaccio of (cooked) pesce spada. For the main course we had pesce spada Eolian style and a spicy Sicilian sausage respectively, everything just perfectly prepared. And all at a very moderate price.

We got there purely by an accident, after renting a "car" to go around Vulcano, but were very glad we ended up there. It's a family place, the food was not elaborate at all but tasted really great - we had two pasta dishes and two fish dishes, and I cannot find fault with any of them. The staff were very friendly. If you're exploring Vulcano, this restaurant is strongly recommended.

I don’t often give five stars in my review but Our dinner at the Cappero combined what I valued the most: passion, creativity and ability to transcend local simple cuisine into a journey. The location is breathtaking overseeing the straight between Vulcano and Lipari, fully exposed to sunset. Too bad the chilly cloudy evening did not enable us to take full advantage of it. That was the only main drawback. Our seven course exploration menu (portions are small enough so that such gastronomic journey is undertaken at the expense of sense of guilt) let us travelled through mainly seafood creations (one can argue that most Sicilian and island cuisine was actually more earthy than maritime on old days ...but that’s a detail) that included a colourful and funny composions of seafood tartares, urchin sorbet (no kidding, quite powerful or the palate, for some maybe even too strong) brioche and slow steamed octopus. We are usually not big pasta fans but the special wheat spaghetti with a oyster-citrus sauce were to die for. A special mention also to the revisited “Sicilian topped up bread”, which shows that a real artist can transform something simple into a great dish. The service was impeccable and conveyed the passion of the staff for their creation and their land. Too often (south) Italian cuisine is still relying on the ingredients of such diverse bonanza land with a certain lack of creativity, but not the Cappero! Thank you for your passions and creativity. Michelin might even think of doubling up on stars in my view.

We were suggested this restaurant by a local. You need to book to secure a good seating on the 1st floor terrace. We took an eolian antipasto and fish cakes as starters and then proceeded to involtini (fish rolls-swordfish) and stuffed calamari. Add water and local wine and you are in the 25euros per head range. Service was speedy.

Trattoria da Pina di Maniaci

We stumbled upon this enchanting trattoria after a driving down a long and picturesque winding road to Gelso, on the island of Vulcano. Located in front of an attractive, black lava pebble beach , the trattoria has open views over the sea to the Sicilian mainland. It actually is nothing more than a wooden shack--like structure with about 30 covers. As soon as you walk up the short flight of stairs, it's like walking back in time to another era when everything was much simpler and what really mattered was enjoying a wonderful meal with some close friends. The original owner, who must be in his eighties and still serves the clients, shuffles around bare-footed and looks like a character right out of Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea". After soaking in the atmosphere we ordered an antipasto consisting of octupus, caponata and cous cous with tuna, absolutely divine! We then had spaghetti with tuna fish roe and spaghetti with clams washed down with some local white wine. Both were delicious. Next, we shared a plate of grilled amberjack, equally sublime. Finally, we were treated to some ricotta- filled canoli which were amazing.Must say, it's rare to find such restaurants these days and the total price for such a wonderful meal, including water and coffee, came to a very reasonable €61 . This was our best eating experience throughout our entire stay on the Aeolian islands.

This is an excellent little place that serves 'pani cunzatu' (bread topped with any number of local ingredients) and salads. There's a lovely little terrace, or a small number of tables inside (air conditioning!). The pani cunzatu were really fantastic and to finish we were offered a small glass of malvasia with piparelli biscuits on the house.
