Love this restaurant, I have been several times and always had a wonderful meal. The owner & staff are most attentive and the menu, although not vast, has fresh, local produce & an excellent wine list. Quite pricey, but well worth the visit.

First of all I suggest everyone who is on his way to Piacenza or Parma to make a detour for a few km in order to reach Castell'Arquato a lovely and enchanting village which will bring you back to Middle Ages. A non touristic route - rather unkonown by Italians too - a historical beauty which is just waiting to be shared. If you are able to do it, park the car and have a healthy walk up to the top of the village where you find the main square ( Piazza Monumentale ). On your way back you will be hungry so that it will be the time to stop : just at the foot of the village you will find the Trattoria del Voltone. Local traditional restaurant, elegant and rustic at the same time located in a medieval building wisely refurbished. The menu is nothing but standard ! The chef offers you selected dishes, interesting matches and fresh ingredients. I guess foreigners might not understand the value of such a cuisine because they are used to expect some stereotypes from Italian food that you won't find here ! You can eat something special, delicious, accompanied by a bottle that you can choose from the comprehensive wine list - even if I would rather suggest to go for some local wines instead. The area is land to some very good wines ( most of them sparkling ) which match perfectly the food. I was impressed by the Monterosso - a local white wine - ( not in the wine list ) which is served like a sort of "house wine". But it is not the usual low profile wine that you find in most restaurants where you order a "house wine". I was told that a local wine maker producing biological wine just bottles that fantastic wine for the restaurant. I was so impressed that I asked the two brothers managing the place to sell a couple of bottles to take home with me. I enjoyed very much the friendly spirit of the brothers, they spent their time explaining dishes and wines and we received also a rather quick service having our son with us ( 8 years old ). The price paid for the bill : very acceptable. Wine list : reasonable prices for high profile labels.

No comment.

This restaurant is amazing. The terrace is a beautiful place to eat and take in wonderful views. The food is superb and the wine list offers a great choice (some are very local). The very-reasonable price top off an outstanding meal. I would recommend to anyone and return if again in the area. Cheers

On the way from Piacenza to Modena we stopped at random next to a modestly appearing restaurant open on Sunday afternoon. It is a very elegant, new place with style. Perfect restrooms. We had prosciuto, bread and coffee and one small glasss of wine. The waiting was very gentle but also on the pushy side after all. We consumed little and paid 25 E.

Ate here a couple of times already, the place entirely deserves its Michelin star! Inventive menu based on local products, attentive service by Lucy, extremely good price/quality relation, 6 courses (plus the usual extras) for 60-70 euros, cozy context directly in the house of the chef who shows accomplished tecniques and some very original ideas. Good wine selection with very honest pricing. Definitely one of the best restaurant in the zone!

The ambient is nice and clean. The waiter is friendly and quick to serve. There is a "vista" on the kitchen and their menu includes speciality plates like truffles. Our plates were well cooked but unfortunately there was no other clients and we felt a bit "cold".
Soddisfatto!

We had an amazing lunch here. Relaxed, beautiful food paired with great wines and terrific service! The food was both representative of the region but complex and varied as well. Beautiful and lovingly prepared cuisine by thoughtful staff. Do not hesitate to stop here if you are in the neighborhood or drive here on purpose! It is a dining experience you will enjoy!

This review is not going to make the osteria owner very happy, however, the visit to the restaurant has been, unfortunately, one of the most unpleasant events in our recent trip to Northern Italy. Let me say from the start - I do NOT enjoy writing a negative review, but what happened was simply over the line - upfront apologies for the long story. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage kids - my wife came across Osteria Bottega Garibaldi online, we all liked the environment and were impressed by the reviews. So we drove over the evening of June 20 and sat on the porch with a decent street view. The waitress was a lovely young woman with some knowledge of English (no trace of that language in the menu though), so with little help of the online dictionary, we ordered a tartar steak and wine for starters and, since one puts in their own condiments there to taste, all was going rather well. Until the other dishes came in. My wife had some kind of eggplant with shrimp and the kids, hungry as any teenager would be at 8 PM, had cacio e pepe spaghetti and gnocchi. I ordered the seafood pasta, which arrived with an impressive little crab on top and everything looked quite good. Then there was the first bite of pure burning salt. After a big gulp of water, half another bite confirmed that, so I asked everyone else at the table how their food was. To my amazement, ALL of it was very, very salty! As I mentioned, the kids were hungry and did not want to reorder, so they struggled with portions of what they could swallow, my wife battled the melanzane for some time and gave up, and I simply returned my plate untouched. The waitress grew concerned, brought in the menu again and tried to help me reorder, but after 4 salty plates, I decided not to risk anything else and called for the bill.To my shock, the returned dish was on it! Simply not right and although 14⬠is not a big dip, it is a matter of principle IMHO. We have dined in most of North America and the EU and there have been a few occasions, where dishes needed to be returned or exchanged. It is a simple restaurant rule, that those are taken off the bill, straight and simple. But not here. We spoke to the waitress, who said she, unfortunately, cannot do anything and 'the boss' will be called in. And then all hell broke loose - a tall woman in a black jacket stormed out of the hall and stared a huge and loud recital in Italian. My wife understands the language a bit, I know a few words, the waitress tried to help with some limited vocabulary and between the screams and gestures we finally figured out, that this was indeed the chef! Mad as hell, fortunately - unarmed, and in the most foul mood possible. According to her, the seafood was fresh, and salty, and nothing were to be done about that!... We did counter politely, that ALL 4 dishes were exceptionally salty, but she went on about salt being a personal perception, that pecorino is a salty cheese, etc, etc. I did ask again, kindly, not to be charged for something I did not eat and which was not eatable to start with, but the chef said she is not the owner, cannot make a decision and went on further about how good the kitchen in this restaurant is. I mentioned, that I would perhaps write about this experience online, to which the tirade continued along the line of 'yes, do it, but I will counter, explain, you guys know nothing' and so on. The poor waitress just stood there, embarrassed and unable to help, and simply nodded when I showed her the Italian translation of 'attitude' on my phone...By this time we all got fed up, paid the bill and left, but if the owner of the restaurant ever reads this - please, kindly consider educating your staff, the chef in particular, in service. Further, we do cook, not professionally, but quite extensively, and we have some experience in with pasta, sauces, seafood and salt. The simple trick of balancing naturally salty indigents by using unsalted parts of the dish is widely used by chefs all around the world. Over-salting could happen even to the best in the business and salt taste could be personal sometimes, we know that. But the chance of 4 people having the same perception about 4 different dishes, at the same time, as overly salty - and all of them being wrong - that simply can't be. Not to mention the very unpleasant show and total lack of respect for the customer. In conclusion - 2 weeks later we laugh about that and it is a funny story to tell friends, but it was, in fact, a rather disgraceful treatment and a noticeable dent in our row of wonderful culinary experiences in Italy.
