Reviews on Mediterranean food in Faial Island, Azores, Portugal. Faial Island (Portuguese pronunciation: [fɐˈjaɫ]), also known in English as Fayal, is a Portuguese island of the Central Group (Portuguese: Grupo Central) of the Azores. The Capelinhos Volcano, the westernmost point of the island, might as well be the westernmost point of Europe, if the Monchique Islet, near Flores Island, is considered part of North America, for it sits on the North American Plate.

Comfy casual local food on the charming cove of Porto Pim in Horta... terrace over viewing the nice black sandy beach... enjoy it at lunch or sunset on my behalf!

Although dinner overall was wonderful, please do not leave this place without trying the octopus appetizer. It is absolutely wonderful. Not only was the food superb but the portions are crazy big. Definitely a must try when in Faial.

Traditional azorean food, fresh fish and wonderful meet selection and big wine card friendly servers
Went for dinner. Chose the Azorean meat platter starter which was amazing and huge portions. However we took longer than they expected so our fish was slightly over cooked. That said everything was very tasty and weâd definitely go back! Good friendly service

Went to the beach and wanted a light lunch. Passed by this restaurant and thought it would be very expensive. Walked around to the typical local restaurants in the area but found the lunch were all big portions and quite heavy. Went back to the Praya, I'm so glad we did what a great spot. We ordered a few starters items ate the lunch tapas style. I had the creamed vegetable soup which was fantastic, although I would have preferred it a little hotter. My husband had the fish soup which he loved. We shared the samosas and the bruchetta. Everything was really good, tasty and really well presented. It is not served in a typical portuguese style but the taste was fabulous....

We dined here as part of a large group. The menu had already been arranged and included the polvo salad, tuna salad, grilled mackerel and cataplana. The tuna was excellent as was the cataplana which was delicious, especially the broth. After dinner the owner gave a short talk about his two solo sailing trips around the world. It was a great evening.

We had hiked from the Caldeira down to the Levant and then to restaurant Aldina and were hungry and thirsty. The place was full but the manager arranged a table inside and wow were we impressed! The food was excellent, limpets, squid for me and soup and fish for my Wife. This is a fantastic restaurant and I highly recommend it

For both lunch and dinner, my wife and I enjoyed the opportunity to select our catch of the day from the fish displayed on ice in the restaurant. The waiter was quite helpful in explaining the fish. The preparation of the fish was really outstanding and we enjoyed the roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables that came with the fish. Of the fish we enjoyed in the Azores, my wife and I agree that this was one of the top one or two places in terms of selection, preparation and taste. While the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, the inside is quite comfortable and we enjoyed eating dinner on the patio. If you are in Horta looking for fresh fish, I would definitely recommend eating here.

Gastrobar with a lighthearted, friendly atmosphere and with a young-blooded menu composed by our international chefs)
Tried to get in the night before and could not, so came at 7 pm and got a table. Glad we came back. The coconut fish was super and the grilled octopus delicious. Did not have any appetizers. Service was great. Would recommend.
