Reviews on Mediterranean food in Calatayud, Province of Zaragoza, Spain. Calatayud (Aragonese: Calatayú; 2014 pop. 20,658, declining during the last decade due to migration) is a municipality in the Province of Zaragoza, within Aragón, Spain, lying on the river Jalón, in the midst of the Sistema Ibérico mountain range. It is the second-largest town in the province after the capital, Zaragoza, and the largest town in Aragón other than the three provincial capitals. It is the seat of the comarca of Calatayud.

Our magnificent restaurant specializing in Castilian cuisine delights diners looking for the most authentic and traditional flavor. We have a wide menu, specializing in homemade beans and chickpeas, paella, Basque hake, sea bream, sea bream and baked sea
Always nice to come across a solid, homestyle place that is a respite on a long road trip. The food was abundant and had great flavor - the ternasco is apparently very traditional and crowd favorite. Very varied menu with multiple choices, even for the menu of the day and pricing was quite fair. The dining room and locale in general was very clean despite it being huge and having crowds of people going through (you may have to wait at peak meal times). Service was really efficient as well.

We were staying at the Hotel Monasterio Benedictino and did not fancy dinner in their restaurant so we walked just around the corner and found Cerveceria Antonio. this is a typical Spanish bar which serves a range of Tapas. We had the sepia, chiporones, calarmares and patata bravas - all were delightful and freshly cooked. Add in 4 canas and 2 cafe - the total bill for two was 26.90 Euros. It does get very busy and noisy but is well worth it. Highly recommended

This is THE most famous and popular place in all Catalayud and surroundings. Its history is connected to that of the city. The restaurant is part of a big old traditional house that also held a hotel, cafeteria and a museum. The food quality is good and for a very good price.

My boyfriend and have just returned from ten days in Spain; we spent one night in the little town of Calatayud. The town itself is beautiful, but the high point was definitely dinner at Casa Escartin. He had the lamb, which he says was the best he's ever had. I had chicken that simply fell off the bone. Yum! The wine list was extensive, and our selection was perfect. The restaurant's decor is simple and rustic, and the service was wonderful. If we ever return to Calatayud, we will definitely stop off at Casa Escartin for dinner. Buen provecho!

We had a lovely meal, served by a charming waiter in pleasant surroundings, for incredibly good value for money. I loved the way the waiter toasted the bread on the open fire and also cooked the meat on the fire, giving it an amazing taste. We were recommended a local wine (Baltazar), which perfectly accompanied our meal. All in all, a very good experience!
