Things to do in Middletown
A great place to grab some quick Latin food
Ok, so I found this place just by walking by on my way to another food place. So glad I found them. I ordered seven empanadas of different types and they were all very good.Friendly and efficient service, the food reasonably priced. I will definitely be going back for more .

Cursed by the gods of travel, I found myself staying in Middletown, NY for a few days for work, with its plethora of nasty restaurant chains and fast food pickings. A little digging and faster than you can say, "El Tapatio" we were, uh, in El Tapatio. The first thing I noticed was that when I rested my arms on the table they stuck to it like a green hornet on flypaper. Nasty and dirty. The chips were fair, the salsa was okay. Pretty bland and not packing much flavor; however, the beer was ice cold. No lie - I can't remember the last time I was served a bottle of beer that cold before. That elevates them a star right there, which just goes to show how thirsty I was before I sat down. I ordered a mole dish and received something that appeared to be mole but was presented unlike any incarnation I had ever received. The chicken was rubbery, it was loaded with mushrooms, and it tasted and looked more like a dark spicy enchilada sauce than mole. The rice and beans were fairly decent, however. I also ordered the Tres Leches which was the Mexican equivalent of a brick. A brick, I say. I almost broke my fork slicing through it, though it was a pretty large serving if stale dessert lights your burners. Something tells me that if you called ahead, picked it up, took it home and had it front of your television you would enjoy it more, which also pretty much describes my last five dates. Off night? I don't know. It seems like a dirty little restaurant in a dirty little shopping center next to something odd - I can't remember what it was off the top of my head, but I almost questioned going in. Also, the pitch black parking area wouldn't have made me feel too comfortable unless I was trying to score an 8-ball or an instant massage. The prices were reasonable, but I'd say if you're visiting the area and are looking for Mexican food you should probably head elsewhere. This place was simply not my cup of mole.

This is a small restaurant with a huge following. When people find out that Jackie has relocated to Middletown, they make the trek! It's not only Empanada Heaven, it is a magnet for people who hunger for authentic latin food. We tasted six different kinds of empanada, each better than the one before. Nothing greasy about these babies. The rice and beans competed with the sweet plantains for our favorite sides, but that did not keep us from ordering extra sides to go with the Pernil (roasted pork shoulder) the fried pork, Southern fried chicken, Garlic shrimps and chicken etc.. All to die for!

They sell good food here depends on the day though some days you get top-notch Puerto Rican food some days I don't know I said this once before anyone could say that they could cook Puerto Rican food but not everyone can when you have a restaurant the only good business is consistent quality and flavor you should always have good days

We came to this restaurant that just opened in a newly-built strip mall. Nicely set-up and decorated. The service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately...the meals were a bit of a let down. For us, the best part was the rice and beans. The chicken and steak dishes we had didn't seem to be fresh...seemed to be made from frozen (very tough and manufactured tasting). Plantains were good. Was hoping for better.

My daughter and I stumbled upon this restaurant on our way to the guesthouse we were staying at and decided to stay for early supper. The restaurant did not disappoint. My daughter had the salmon with passion fruit sauce and I had the chicken stew. Her fish was very good and my chicken stew was also very tasty. My stew was a little saltier than I would have liked. I always feel the kitchen should err on the side of caution and under-salt food rather than over-salt it. But none-the-less it was edible and I enjoyed it. I just drank alot of water later that evening. The service was very good and we even had a chance to speak to the owner/chef before ordering where he explained the items on the menu that we were interested in. I would definitely go back the next time I'm in the neighbourhood.

We arrived here for lunch during the week, and were warmly welcomed and served. Service was very quick, and the portions were huge. Among other things, we really enjoyed the chorizo quesadillas, whole red snapper and desserts - the tres leches ws excellent - just the right level of moistness, and the churros were outstanding.
