Where to eat Latin food in Las Terrenas: The Best Restaurants and Bars

December 14, 2019 Chanda Heide

Find out what Latin restaurants to try in Las Terrenas. Located on the northeastern coast of the Samana Peninsula, Las Terrenas offers miles of protected inshore waters and beautiful, undeveloped white-sand-beaches, lined with tall palm trees and pastel-colored fishing boats. Trade winds and the warm temperature of the sub-tropical Atlantic Ocean bring this part of the island year-round balmy weather. With a year-round average of 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperatures vary only 18 degrees between summer and winter.

Small and friendly resturant of authentic MEXICAN homemade food

We really wanted to have Mexican food during our stay in Las Terrenas. We decided to head to La Catrina as it is centrally located and was walking distance from our hotel. We ordered Nachos as a starter and they were ok, but quite tasteless (more spices needed). I ordered pork, bacon, onion and red bell peppers with some flour tortillas. My food was good, but again more kick was needed (not spicy at all). My wife ordered chicken quesadillas and it was great disappointment. Quesadilla was not grilled enough, stuffing was only minced (pretty tasteless) chicken and VERY small amount of cheese. Repeating my wife's words: "Quesadilla was really tasteless".Service was great (not speaking English, but it is common here), but food was definitely not bang for buck. If you are looking authentic Mexican, you need to skip this one.

I absolutely loved TikiSnack. So much of LT is either precious or awful and Tiki Snack really hits the right balance. Currently run by a French-Dominican couple, all the bases are covered. Yes, the menu includes Croque Monsieur. The rose wine is delicious and the french fries are served with mayo. I had a Caribbean chicken which could have been spicier (my taste) but was beautifully presented and the portion was huge. I could not finish. The music is just the right blend of old faves and new intriguing things. (I am old)Clean, comfortable, welcoming. When you are in Las Terrenas, run don't walk to this lovely affordable place. You will have fun.

Salty Rooster Beach Bar & Grill

Salty Rooster Beach Bar and Grill is located in the beautiful and picturesque town of Las Terrenas. This bar/restaurant has one of the best unobstructed ocean views, great American style BBQ pit, great food and undeniably the best bartender and wait staff

This is a HUGE new Canadian-owned beach bar that just opened during the summer of 2016. They have a very attractive layout, with swings, tables, "beach" seating area (sand, but not really on the beach) and a stereo system that can probably be heard all the way to Cabarete. Having passed by it many times, I was perplexed that there are not more clients there. So, I tried it out with some friends. Not surprisingly, the drinks are weak and overpriced. However, I was expecting that given the facility. What I didn't expect is their insistence on charging a 30% tax on all checks, even when you are paying cash! Anyone who has spent any time at all around Las Terrenas knows you have to pay this tax when paying with credit cards, however, it is virtually never applied to "cash" customers. The bottom line is that not only are the drink prices higher than just about anywhere else in town, by the time you get your bill they are even 30% higher than the posted price! No wonder the place is empty...

Great looking place in the middle of El Limon (and with parking space to boot!). Big thatch covered outdoor restaurant with all, the DomRep has to offer: Arepa de Yuca, grilled fish, goat, tostones, fried chicken, lambi, octopus, rice and beans, flan etc etc. The only place in the region having such a choice of well prepared dishes at very reasonable prices. The service, coordinated by Santiago is friendly and efficient. Open every lunch, very crowded on week-ends.

Having spent the last few nights in the fancier spots on the beachfront we fancied something more homely and made the right choice. Very relaxed, very friendly, very good had me cooking. The BBQ ribs were excellent. And the price was perfect and an added bonus is that they don’t add on the 28% tax most restaurants do.

During the 3 nights, we spent on Las Terrenas, this was the only place we repeated!Food is really good, attention and service from the servers and the owner were great, they make you feel at home.On food, the absolute winner is the Guisado de rabo, a cow tail cooked with spices, tender and full of flavor. Also, the Ropa Vieja, de Moros & Cristianos, the fried plantains and yuca are great.About Mojitos, even they have an extense menu on options -we tried de passion fruit one and it was good- i prefer to stay with the original, amazing!Prices are fair, absolutely, we'll be back when we return to Las Terrenas.
