A fusion of South American flavors...
So it has been quite a while since my last review. We have been back many many times since we first dined here and I wrote the original review and I just couldn't let the three stars stand. Everything has gotten better since the first review, the food, the service and ambiance.Since our first visit we haven't had a bad tasting item. Tonight we tried the grilled mussels for the time. Wow, totally different preparation than we have ever had before. Hubby enjoyed them but I loved them. They were super smokey and served with a mole style bottled sauce. It was new exciting flavors for me and made me feel like I was on vacation. The mojita and the plantain chips and sauce that accompanied didn't hurt either. I was a very happy girl! Tonight I had the salmon which is served with a Brazilian mole, coconut rice and asparagus. One of my favorite entrees. I love the coconut rice. Sometimes I even ask for it to be substituted as a side with other dishes. They are always willing to accommodate this. The asparagus is grilled and very tasty too. The salmon is usually cooked medium unless you ask for something different. It is a large serving and so delicious. The Brazilian mole doesn't over power it just enhances the rich salmon flavor. My other favorite dish is Moro a la Sao Paulo - a skirt steak wrapped around mushrooms and onions. So delicious, you can never go wrong with one.I don't know how they continue to find the best servers. They are always so friendly and make you feel so welcome and appreciated. Ambiance - are favorite place to sit is outside on the patio. We can walk here from our house and we bring the dog (they bring out a dish of water for him). We people watch and say hi to neighbors. It's great. Unfortunately this is Chicagoland and the outdoor season is short. We dined for the time in the upstairs tonight. Totally different than downstairs. Upstairs is quiet and intimate while downstairs is loud boisterous. Both are fine just depends on your mood.Reservations are a must. If you don't have them you might luck out and be able to grab a seat at the bar. This place is popular!

We dined at El Buren before venturing to Ravinia, which made the entire evening a perfect date! We were seated immediately outside. The service was excellent, from expedience to advise. The calamari was exceptional... tender and so tasty! My jerk chicken dish was mouth watering, and my partner ordered the pork chop which was the size of the entire pig! It was huge and he loved it. The portions are generous and the flavors were wonderful. We plan to revisit El Buren in the near future and highly recommend it to those who like spice, great service and to have a enjoyable dining experience.
