My husband and I tried this place but were very disappointed. I specifically said âno shrimpâ in my soup due to an allergy. After two sips I quickly could tell it was shrimp broth. My throat started to close off! But compared to my husbandâs meal.... his dish came with a sharp piece of metal wire in it. Were they trying to kill us? Also... had to wait an hour for a meal we couldnât eat. We saw a plate of raw sushi sit on the sushi bar (someone elseâs order) in front of us for 30-40 minuets until they finally served it to the guy a few seats down from us. This place should be avoided.

Located in the heart of Waipahu in a strip mall off Farrington Highway, this decades old restaurant has been in a time warp with its vinyl booth seating, home style local Japanese foods and ohana atmosphere. Food is tasty, reasonably priced, and of good portions. Their specialty is the teishoku combination, allowing you to select between one and three main dishes such as sashimi, misoyaki butterfish, and chicken katsu. If you have room, desserts are a bomb with their ice cream pies, such as watermelon and kona coffee. Come night time and you get complimentary KTV entertainment from the loosely separated Kuni's lounge, which also offers the same menu when the restaurant side is crowded. Most mom-and-pop shops have faded into the sunset with the coming of the national chains. Home this place remains for decades to come, a local treasure.

Went to Waikele on 12/26 for some after Christmas shopping and then ate lunch there. The restaurant was crowded and has a waiting list but the line moved quickly. The waiters are efficient and fast in serving us drinks but they don't give leave a container of napkins and chopsticks on the table but instead only give each person one napkin and one pair of chopsticks which was really strange. May be they have a napkins and chopsticks being stolen problem or they are just really tight on the budget giving the lost time this year. The preparation of food is not very good.We order a few spicy bomb and the tuna is not cut well at all and has lots of tendons in it which makes it inedible. I took a photo with is one big piece of tuna with lots of tendon and we are not able to eat it at all. Also the mix vegetable tempura comes with mostly Kombocha tempura pieces with a giant piece at the bottom of the bowl. Really not flavorful at all. I would give it a below average since poor is a bit harsh but I don't think it deserves an average compare to other Genki we have been to. The store is very clean and efficient. Very good servers.

Much better the second time around here. And better/more informed service this time. My wife got some noodles (forget which one) that were good. I brought my own tonkatsu sauce this time. The waitress noticed and we started talking. Told her last time the waitress said they don't have tonkatsu sauce. Lo and behold, they sure do and she hooked me up. So, of course I did the curry katsu and had the curry on the side so I could slather the katsu with tonkatsu sauce. The food was really, really good. Plus, to maximize our coupon we got a side of katsu. All in all, we had enough food to feed a small army for a $25 coupon.

We were at the Premium outlet and decided to have lunch there, since we had not tried this restaurant chain before. The ordering is done through iPads, and it is fully computerized. There are conveyor belts running with food, but the orders done through the iPads are brought on mini racing cars, on specific conveyor belts. We tried several dishes and they were ok. Unfortunately, there was no WOW factor.Service was average.
