Things to do in Uji
We had an exceptional experience here. We came in for a drink and never left. Staff were brilliant, very helpful and really cared. Food was brilliant sashimi tuna and pork salad were exceptional, the best we had all trip and the price was so cheap. Great value for money. A hidden treasure.

This restaurant serves the most authentic kai-seki. Kai-seki originally came from a buddhist practice of serving multiple dishes, except they were vegetarian. All the food from this place is vegetarian and is of great quality. It wasn't as good as kobe beef, but this has another class of its own. Definitely try this place out, we always wanted to try kai-seki and the price is not that bad. It's around 100 dollars for 2 people. Also their waitresses do a dogeza when they serve you, it's neat customer service.

This restaurant is in Uji, just across the street from the Appro supermarket, and although the food was good when we got it, the service was surly and very slow to actually get the food to the table. The staff were unhappy to have us eating there, and that showed in the food service, with the dishes just being dropped in front of us. The local guests that arrived after us were fawned upon, their service was exemplary. As Uji is a tourist town both Japanese and international, this attitude is unacceptable. We ended up leaving the restaurant early, thoroughly disgusted with the attitude displayed.

After visiting Byodoin Temple, I walked around the village and ended up spending a very good time in this small Japanese sweet shop. Had the pancakes and ginger red tea. Tasty, original and well designed. They had sakura candies for sale. Very delicious too.
Provei muitos udon nesta viagem e sempre tinha um toque para agradar turistas. Mas aqui o cardápio e totalmente em japonês. Tive dificuldade na escolha do prato mas o udon escolhido estava excelente. Recomendo!

good spot to visit after checking out one of the near by sake breweries. this place is really big. i don't know if we were the only tourists, but we were the only westerners. well priced yakitori and sake. they accept credit card. Not sure if this is the exact name.....but the pictures are correct. the address on yelp for torisei honten worked for me.

We were planning to go to another place, which turned out to be closed. We made a reservation to this place instead, after reading the reviews. When we arrived, we were deciding between the super bento box vs a matcha tasting menu. Even though the latter is 1500 Yen more expensive per person, it was completely worth it. There were 8 courses and each one was fantastically made. Each one was done with matcha and looked green. Extremely creative. I highly recommend it.

Having come from a culture of believing whales should stay in the ocean it can be confirmed the Japs are definitely into something. The whale nigiri was the best thing weâd ever eaten and couldnât get enough of it. Watching the sushi masters prepare the food in front of you also adds to the experience. Canât recommend this place more highly

You can't miss this place if you are going to Uij. Beautiful Japanese garden, beautiful traditional building, and yummy matcha food. Just make sure you go early to avoid the line-up. We got there around 11am and only need to wait around 15min. Otherwise like the other reviewers have said expect to wait 45min to an hour

We stopped by this cafe on our way to temple. Itâs so delicious. The eels set is the best for my husband. And my pork set is so yummy. The macha ice cream is the best in this trip so far. Will come back for sure.
