The place is a tad crowded from being in the center of town but more than makes up for it with quality food. I got the oyako-donburi and my girlfriend got the ginger pork meal. Both were fantastic however the pork was top quality, strong in flavor, juicy, and an excellent sized portion. Oyakodon was great as well, nice flavor. We also tried the grilled squid (yaki ika?) which was very tasty.Prices were a bit on the high side, however this is to be expected in the tourist central of Kusatsu-machi. I cannot recall if the menus were English friendly, however they did have pictures.

This family-run restaurant is specialized in deep-fried pork chop, and arriving late in lunch we were still very warmly welcomed by the staff, making us already feeling good. I ordered the signature deep-fried pork chop with rice and the crust is crispy, thinly coating a thick pork chop which was juicy. I had a layer of fat which brought a good taste but maybe for the ladies they would think it is a bit too much. There was plenty of cabbage on the side, and in addition there was some side dishes provided along with a miso soup. Overall a good restaurant for those who liked deep-fried pork chop in Kusatsu, with a good price/value ratio.

There are many soba taverns in Kusatsu you have to queue to take your lunch. I do not like to queue, so I visited this soba tavern recently. It was an amazing soba tavern with fresh and superb soba served after a variety of sake and tempra. You only pay about \2,000 for your good lunch in Kusatsu with a friendly and gentle couple. This tavern will be closed every day when fresh soba run out. ã¨ã¦ãç¾å³ããè麦ã¨å¤©ã·ããããã¦ãé ã§ãããæ°ãããªãäºäººã§åãçãããã¦ãã¾ãããé ã飲ã人ã¯ã天ãããã®ãã¡ã天ã·ãã ããå ã«åºãã¦ããã¦ã好ããªæã«è麦ãåºãã¦ããããæé«ã®ã·ãã¥ã¨ã¼ã·ã§ã³ã§ãã

Enza Cafe is situated close to the famous Snow Monkey Park, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy delicious local food, drinks and home-made desserts while surrounded by the beautiful sights of Nagano prefecture's mountains and trees.
We stopped here for coffee, tea and a bathroom break during our visits to the snow monkey park. On the second day, they were super nice to call a taxi for us to take us to the Yudanaka station.

"This place is temporarily closed."
We went to this place after seeing some reviews (a lot in Japanese) and we were not disappointed. This turned out to be one of our better meals in Japan. The town was quaint and we were able to meander down the windy road to this establishment. There was a line for the place but the wait was worth it. For a total of five people, we order two plates of soba, three dipping sauces, tempura plate, duck, tuna, two tonkatsu bowls. It was a lot of food. If you get a plate of soba, it is good for 2-3 people unless you are really hungry. The noodles are made on premises with flour they grind. The tonkatsu is smokey and very tasty. It was a lot of food so happily shared around the table. Our favorite dip was the duck and leek, very good, but a close second was the tempura style. The duck plate was pretty good but I was unfortunate to choose the only chewy piece. Service was good and the food came out fairly quickly after we ordered.Put this on your list if you are visiting "stinky" town. It will accentuate your visit and add a great cherry on the experience.
