Very small restaurant with a good atmosphere. They specialise in yakitori, so it was quite smokey in a small space. We were there in January and we had to book a day ahead for a table. We would eat there again.

We had lunch at Daimon after searching for any restaurant opening during summertime. Daimon is only few of restaurant open when we visit Nozawaonsen. Price is moderate and quality is good. They have soba and udon but soba is their specialty, either cold soba or hot soba. The place is not that big with five or six tables available, but it is clean and neat. Located rather hidden from main road. Recommended for lunch at Nozawa onsen.

We dined here with 2 families of 4 and everyone loved it. The food was faultless and reasonably priced. Its difficult in Nozawa (in January at least) to get restaurants for 8 people so try to book in advance. We popped our head in a couple of days before and secured a booking.

Do you know TONJIRU? It is a Japanese soup made with pork and vegetables, flavored with miso! It’s definitely a soul food of Japan. A TONJIRU specialty restaurant ‘Tachibana’ serve exquisite tonjiru ,which goes perfectly well with rice. Tachibana’s tonjiru is made with pork, tofu and a large amount of onions. As 80% of the soup comes from onions, the flavor is as rich and sweet as a stew.
First time, I couldn’t believe the quality and price of food (happy hour is amazing too). We had karage, shepherd pie, taco bowl, and salad. Next two visits didn’t disappoint either, each time we went with different people and everyone’s reactions were the same. Staff and lovely, helpful and courteous. Our first visit, we were having so much fun catching up, then we realised we were last people left and the staff never pressured us to leave even though it was past closing time. Amazing and will return.

Love Hunter bar! Great place for a few beers and an awesome meal! The sukiyaki is absolutely delicious and is a 1 person serving which is pretty awesome. Make sure you book a table for dinner as they get busy most nights.

Hidden down some steps off the main street beneath the Italian restaurant is this great authentic feeling restaurant. An eclectic array of wall decorations makes for a great ambiance with shared tables the norm. You will need to book as it is very small and very popular . Even in low season we needed to book 3 days ahead. Food was great, well priced and very traditional. Well worth planning to visit.

As a family-ran business with a long history in town, Shokudo Shibata is proud to offer a unique selection of locally-sourced dishes, classic Japanese cuisine and some of our favourite beer, wine and sake.
I had the wayu beef and it was amazing. The place is busy so it is probably better to book ahead of time.
