This is the tale of two reviews. Those of you who donât want to read through: food is very good but the service is horrible. My wife and I finally had an evening out and we went to this newer restaurant for some good sushi. Interesting location, off the beaten path even though itâs on route 20. The decour is not necessarily a Japanese restaurant but theyâve made an attempt by adding little waterfalls, a rock garden, and a cherry blossom tree. It also seems very seemed very bright - like all the bulbs were 100watts. We waited for a few minutes to get her seat but not too long. The restaurant was not very busy for a Friday night and they were empty tables but it seems as if there are only two staff for the whole restaurant. They look like brother and sister actually. They came for a drink order, quickly and although it took a little bit of time the sake and hot tea arrived. The waiter arrived about 10 minutes later and took our order of three rolls and a side tuna steak. The steak comes on a hot rock and is cooked in front of you. The 3 rolls were: tuna lovers roll, hot girl roll - spicy tuna salmon avocado spicy mayo with seaweed salad on top, and green river roll- spicy salmon avocado and smoked salmon on top. It was an odd rolls which we had not had before. Now the tough part; again the place was not packed -maybe six couples. We waited for almost 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Another couple who walked in right after us and sat at the bar, ordered their food, ate their food, and left before we ever saw our food. We did ask three times and all 3 times they apologized. There was yelling in the back kitchen but no food. Not exactly sure what happened, but at the last request, the waiter went to the sushi chef. We could see that he asked about the order and the chef had totally forgotten it. That doesnât answer why the tuna steak never came out, but forgetting a patron was not cool. They did apologize, but saying sorry without a change in practice rings hollow. When the food did come, the first was the tuna steak. The tuna was good, very thick piece of sushi grade red tuna. - Iâm not a huge fan of grilled tuna this way , but my wife ate it up. The waiter cut pieces so the entire tuna was lightly cooked. The sushi rolls were very good. Since there was little rice to hold together the rolls; two rolls were wrapped together with fish, it was a bit mushy. I will say though that the texture didnât diminish the taste. I liked the green river roll, but my wife thought the smoked salmon on top was a bit too fishy. We both liked the the hot girl roll - the seaweed salad was a nice touch and offset the spicyness of the mayo. The bill came and it was about what Iâd expect but they had accidentally added items to the bill. After waving the guy down they were able to fix it. I was half expecting something to be taken off the bill, it would been the right âserviceâ thing to do - by this time we had been at the restaurant for over an hour and half with most of time just waiting. Will we go back - maybe. Weâll give them another shot, maybe they were just having a bad day. The sushi was god but they had so many opportunities to fix the situation but they failed.

I guess it is true that you shouldnât be going to a sushi restaurant on Mondays. I am new to the area and went to Japan One based on the reviews. The spicy tuna roll got me sick - my fault in a way because it tasted little funny, however, it should never have been served in the first place. The specialty roll called Hot Girl was good though.

We celebrated a birthday and reserved a table for our group. The front desk staff/manager seemed grumpy and not very welcoming. The service was swift and our chef was pretty funny. He interacted with nearly every person in our party of 8. They have a fun tradition for birthdays that includes a disco ball, loud music and a free fried ice cream treat. All in all it was fun. I only gave it 4 stars because the food was not as flavorful as our fave spot in Shrewsbury, Osaka which is much simpler but food outstanding.
