Robata is located right next to the MOO, inside a white tent facing the harbor. We wakjed near there on a chilly night and this was the best decision ever for dinner. There were about 6 stalls inside selling fresh seafood which will be grilled over the hot charcoals. It is a very local affair and they thoughtfully gave plastic bag to store our coats so as to not get the BBQ flavors on it. This is really Japanese street food.We bought vouchers at the counter on the left corner at 1000 yen each. Take note that the vouchers needed to be used completely on that day itself and cannot be exchanged back to yen. There are signs written in English for the instructions so it's quite easy for foreigners. There is an assorted array of local seafood delicacies (oysters, scallop, crab, prawn, hokke) and also meat cuts and vegetables as well (the corn and mushroom is to die for). These are all very value priced as well and it is much cheaper compared to a similar product in Sapporo or Otaru. I will definitely go there again next time in Kushiro. The juicy oysters and scallop's sweet flavor still lingers in my mouth till today.

Japanese robata restaurant where you grill your food over a charcoal fire in front of you. Located behind the ANA Crowne Plaza and opposite the Kushiro Fishermanâs Wharf. Choose from a range of seafood and meat or settle for the set menu, and barbecue it yourself over the grill. Set menu starts at US$40 and is more than adequate for two persons, consisting of sashimi, scallops, oysters, smoked fish, salted salmon, and vegetables. Alternatively, order scallops, oysters, squid, shishamo and fish for grilling, supplemented with ikura sushi, miso soup and rice. Friendly and helpful staff, but no English spoken nor any English menu available â need to know the Japanese names to order the fish or shellfish that you want, or resort to bringing the staff to the display counter and point out the items that you want.

Read about this very old Robatayaki shop in Kushiro. Was rather attracted by it and decided to send an email through their website to make a reservation. The email was promptly replied with a confirmation. The food was delicious and fresh, especially the codfish in miso. There is a menu in English/ Chinese for those who could not understand Japanese. We had a very enjoyable meal watching the elderly 80 year old lady chef preparing the food in front of us.

Small homely restaurant serving great food. Very reasonable prices, with half portion available for those with a smaller appetite. Must try dishes include the kokanee (deep-red sockeye salmon indigenous to Lake Akan) and the speciality lake smelt prepared tempura style. The ebi tempura is also excellent. English menu available, and limited English spoken.

I was a bit reluctant to go to a kaitenzushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant, because usually the quality is not great, but the lovely lady of our ryokan strongly suggested this one, so we decided to go. What a fantastic surprise!! The quality is really high, the fish slices are really generous, and the price is super affordable. Overall amazing value. I went again the following night, and I can't wait to visit again!

It was worth looking for this robata place during a recent trip to Kushiro. While there was also pork and chicken, we opted for seafood to grill and small bowl of sashimi-don. The freshness is confirmed by the sweetness and juiciness of our seafood. We especially liked our scallops grilled in soy sauce and our crispy shishamo. The wait staff is friendly and helped us grill our food to perfection (even helped us call a cab in stormy weather). There is free flowing hot and cold tea. To get here we took a bus and short cab ride from the Kushiro Airport. This place closes at 2 pm, so make sure you reach by 12 to leisurely enjoy your meal.
