We arrived before check-in at Henjoson-in so we left our luggage at the hotel and tried to find a restaurant open for a late lunch. Most places were closed. We lucked into Kadohama Gomatofu Sohompo Inshokubumon and were very happy we did. It was busy here and the longer we were here the more crowded it got. We were sitting at a table for 4 overlooking the garden through a glass window. It was very pleasant. We ordered Udon lunch sets. It was very good and very filling. After lunch we sat out on the terrace overlooking the garden. It was a chilly day and we found some lap blankets to use. The chairs on the terrace were most comfortable. After we paid we asked the cashier for directions to a supermarket where we could buy apples. We knew there was one in the area but we were not sure where. She stopped what she was doing and she walked us all the way to the door of the market. That is service above and beyond the call of duty!Very good lunch, very nice staff! The restaurant also sells souvenir items and packaged food and has ice cream cones for sale at the front. If the weather were not so foul we would have bought them.

This is a good fast food style restaurant. The place is modern and clean with an informal atmosphere. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They serve set meals with katsu or steak for around ¥1000. This includes salad, miso soup and a side of pickled veges. Asahi is on tap. It's very close to Kokuu guesthouse so definitely worth a visit if you're staying there.

We went here after a visit to okunion's kobo daishi shrine. It seemed to be one of the few places in Koyasan that serve meat. We really enjoyed our set meal at a decent price of 1100Â¥. It was delicious and filling - exactly what we needed. They have an english menu and the staff speaks basic english.

As we were staying here, we had both the traditional Buddhist breakfast as well as dinner one evening. I really liked the creativity, presentation, and variety of the dishes on offer. It was a fantastic experience that I will not soon forget.

Restaurant is not very large, the furniture is outdated, but there are two traditional tables where you sit on tatamis. Family style cuisine with no pretention (donburi...), but tasty and cheap. The traditional counter is replaced by several tall tables with stools from where you can watch TV on an old cathodic screen. Would return with no hesitation

Although it doesn't stay long (you have to eat it within a few days), "goma-dofu" (sesame curd) is a must-buy item when I visit Koyasan. Goma-dofu there is quite different from what you can buy in supermarkets. Even if you have found coma-dofu in other places not delicious, you should give this one a try.

This place is conveniently located just around the corner from Kokuu guesthouse. The restaurant is new but traditionally styled with Japanese dining rooms (tatami mats and legroom under the tables). It looks like it would be more expensive than it is!The food and drinks were well priced and fairly standard. You can order meal sets or a le carte. Set meals were around ¥1,200 and beers ¥500. The service was exceptional. They use sevice buttons to call staff which means they find a good balance between privacy and attentiveness.

It is a big relief for vegetarians to find so many tasty options for the a meal. The Vegetarian cuisine of Koyasan is registered UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage site. This restaurant gave several options for set menus with prices from 1300 to 2200 yen. Everything was very tasty! Especially wheat gluten called "fu".

the food was really below average compared to any other meal we had in over two weeks in Japan. And expensive. The setting is not particularly nice and the wait is long. We really did not get the recommendations for this place. --> Go for a coffee shop near the cemetery instead.
