Where to eat Asian food in Hara-mura: The Best Restaurants and Bars
We arrived at Kiso Fukashima from Magome. That day we had done a 5 hour walk so had definitely worked up an appetite. Kazusaya was found by chance, walking by. On entering they had an English menu and whilst the waiters spoke little English (and we speak even less Japanese!) they were very friendly and helpful with our requests. We were given a complimentary taster (raw octopus in wasabi which the wasabi lover of the pair enjoyed) and then ordered some yakatori (chicken, chicken balls and chicken skin) which were all cooked well and were tasty. We then ordered a regular sized chicken karraage each (approx 9,900 yen). When this came out it was HUGE! It also came served with shredded cabbage, rice and miso. This Karaage was really tasty, chicken tender and batter crunchy. The only issue- it was so good we both ate it all and ended up with belly aches. Deep fry overload!! Opps!Overall, so glad we stumbled across this gem. It was relaxed, really reasonably priced and exactly what we needed after a long trek. I think from memory they specialise more in Tofu... but to us the Karaage was the stand out for us. It may help to ask your host to call ahead. They will know of the place if you give them the name as it is listed on the tourist town map that you will likely be given.

Itâs a bar with traditional Japanese fare and fusion American stuff. Thereâs an English menu. We got the fried mackerel and stewed pork. The fried mackerel was good, but the pork was amazing: tender, flavorful, and fatty. The staff is friendly and talkative and the proprietor speaks English pretty well. Heâs a pretty interesting guy to talk to! He spent some time in Seattle, introduced us to his friend who was there at the bar too. He even gave us some samples of the local sake! Which were delicious, and I would recommend getting.
Top 10 Japanese food in Iwaizumi-cho, Iwate Prefecture, Japan
This is like cute village houses. The chef used to work in London for many years but has come back and this place serves japanese food. The food was completely amazing! And it kept coming. Prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent - the chef would watch and for people who didn't like a dish, he would automatically offer something different. Highly recommended.
