The family tried this place for dinner during our week vacation in Kona. We enjoyed most of the food, but would say the overall quality was average. Some very good items, some not so good. For starter we had the hand cut tempura onion that was wonderful. For main dishes one son got the Yakiudon and enjoyed it. My wife ordered the garlic fried shrimp and said that while the shrimp was very fresh, they were very greasy and didn't finish. My other son had the Bento box, including much my surprise Spam, and enjoyed it. I had the combination plate with shrimp tempura and teriyaki beef - and while I loved the tempura, the beef was tough and very hard to chew (they offer a NY steak version for $5 more, so if you want beef I might suggest to go that route). The prices we thought were high for the quality, but still not a bad place if you stick to what they do well.

You canât go wrong at this place. The ramen and udon soups are the best on the island. Large menu of Japanese specialties. We dine here at least once a week. Favorites are gyoza, chicken katsu and Tan Tan Udon. Itâs very small and the service is fast and brusque. You wonât be chatting with the wait staff. Theyâre all business and need to turn the tables quickly, but you wonât be disappointed with the food.

It is very hard to find very good Japanese food......i went for lunch with a friend .....lots of people but still got very good service......very fast with water and took order and miso soup came quickly......the miso soup was very tasty but i missed the tofu......ordered the taisho combo teri chicken and tempura......very good and fast....the salad was classic very fine cabbage with a nice dressing.....for me it was filling.....but if you want a lot of food this is not for you.......classic japanese smaller portions and looks beautiful.....nice decor to. I thought it was a reasonable price for the quality $30.00 including the tip for 2 people

My wife, daughter and I came in for a light dinner. The place is a little hidden away in the back of of the street. The ambiance is simple and clean. The menu is mostly rolls and some Sushi choices with rice and ramen options. We ordered rolls, sushi and also I had a chicken teriyaki bowl. When the food arrived, we were simply impressed with how fresh, and attention to detail and tastebuds! It was the best chicken teriyaki bowl I have ever had, many different flavors and wonderfully prepared.Simple and great!

Tucked away in the back side of Fish Hopper restaurant in Kailua Kona is Seijiâs Sushi. A yellow sandwich board sign on the sidewalk across from the bay points you to a small, intimate eating place run by Seiji and Chie. Itâs a good idea to call for a reservation because people who love authentic Japanese food have discovered Seijiâs. While the freshest sushi and sashimi are highlighted, the menu also has delectably prepared tempuras, unagi don, and sobas as well a variety of starters and salads. A big plus is that you can call in a requested dish and theyâll make it! Chie prepared a wonderful okonomiyaki (omelet pancake with shrimp and squid). The Nigiri Sushi Special with assorted tuna, hamachi and mackerel and California Rolls was as fresh as you will ever find!

Happy hour is the time to be there - We had several different rolls, and the quality ranged from middling to fairly good. There was nothing great, and nothing terrible - but the price was low (for the area), and it's popular, so expect a line before happy hour starts. We liked the salon skin roll, the spider toll and the lilikoi martini. We found the salmon avocado roll and the yellowtail roll reasonably good but with a far smaller portion (not as good a value). The eel roll wasn't great ... and the calamari was nothing special, what you might have gotten anywhere. We were super impressed with the bartender - she not only made all the drinks and waited on the bar patrons, she also managed two bar waitresses, and was more on top of their customers needs than they were. She will go far.

Sushi Shiono is without a doubt the best sushi restaurant on the Big Island of Hawaii. We offer only the finest and freshest selections of fresh fish from all over the world, including lots of local Kona fish expertly prepared and served with love.
We had a great sushi dinner at Sushi Shiono with friends on the big island. We had a large party including two kids, and the staff were friendly and accommodating with what we needed. The sushi selection was excellent, including fresh Uni, and the combination meals were a big hit with the families. We also enjoyed some delicious cold sake and beer. Reservations are a must - Shiono is small and popular so make sure you book ahead so you won't be disappointed.

Consistent food and service is where Shimaichi Sushi shines. I've gone there a few times, and I'll go again. I went with business associates the first time and we were all hungry, and had to wait because they were busy. Once seated, I told the server we were really hungry and asked if they could bring us some rice, edamame, and beers ASAP while we looked at the menu. The server followed through immediately with my request and we were so grateful (the server was sharp, caring, and did the right thing). The food is also excellent ... definitely give them a try!
