Things to do in Hida
This is a small and cosy restaurant located conveniently opposite the railway station. We had some set meal that displayed outside the restaurant which was well prepared and very nice. The price is also very reasonable. Initially we had some communication problem to order food with English but the display item help us a lot.
I spent a day in Hida Furukawa cycling, and had an early supper at 5:30, which is the opening hour for this pub. Hida beef was fine and the salad was big. There are both trains and buses going back to Takayama just down the road from here. So if you are not as hungry as I was, Takayama offers more choice of restaurants than Hida Furukawa.

the hostess provided a variety of interesting foods for breakfast and customized it for our western tastes (but not too much!) and my stupid allergies. Very thoughtful and lovingly prepared. Fresh and tasty.
Hida Furukawa is very small town but very beautiful and quiet area. I found this restaurant "とと家" maybe "Totoya" when we are walking, this restaurant seems blowfish is good, but we had other fish lunch sets, I ordered the yellowtail teriyaki, very very yummy! and rice and miso suup are also good!price also reasonable, my set was only 650 yen! vist there when you go to Hida Furukawa!
When you visit Japan's mountains region that is called the Japanese Apls, which boarders the Japan sea, this region produces some of the best buckwheat noodles called Soba. Soba are graded with amount of buckwheat that is the total percentage of the doll, you will be treated with noodles that are made with high percentage of buckwheat or even while buckwheat flour. They are springy and do not stick to your teeth. Perfect for very hot weather to consumed cold. This restaurant follow the tradition well and the side dishes are very well done. The decoration is quite charming with beautiful traditional prints on the wall.
We ate here twice during our visit to Hidafurukawa... And both times felt so welcome. The hostess and her family served us the freshest of food and even surprised us with serving us some fresh Japanese leafy vegetable (sounded like adzuchina?!?) in tempura which was Oishīdesu!!!!We loved it here.

Very comfortable venue in the heart of the town with associated shop The food although limited was very good, their speciality seemed to be your own personal BBQ on which you could have thinly sliced beef and vegetables. However we had the beef curry and rice and the noodles with pork both of which were very enjoyable. The staff didn’t speak English but they had an English menu. They also sold sake, beer and soft drinks. A very friendly atmosphere

From all restaurants we have try in Takayama, this one was the best !!We stayed 2 days in Takayama and dined in a few restaurants. This one by far, was our favorite one !!Staff is VERY friendly, some understand English, menu is in English and food was excellent. Best tomato juice I ever had, in this place and fresh grapefruit-juice is available too. Will definitely go back.
