Find out what Japanese restaurants to try in Hat Yai. Hat Yai (Thai: หาดใหญ่, pronounced [hàːt jàj], also Haad Yai or Had Yai) is a city in southern Thailand near the Malaysian border. Located at 7°1′N 100°28′E / 7.017°N 100.467°E / 7.017; 100.467, it is 946 km (588 mi) south of Bangkok, and has a population of 158,218 (2012) in the city itself and about 800,000 in the greater Hat Yai area. Hat Yai is the largest city of Songkhla Province, the largest metropolitan area in the south, and the third largest metropolitan area of the country. It is often mistaken for being the provincial capital. In fact, Songkhla is the capital and the center of administration and culture while Hat Yai is the business center.

Shabu-shi is located on the ground floor of Lee Gardens. I went solo, for dinner. The price was buffet-style, 355 THB nett. For that, you get all-you can eat sushi, some fried Japanese items (including big shrimp furai and nice pork gyoza/dumplings), 4 choices of soup, and all sorts of meat, chicken, mushroom, and vegetable choices. Also included are 10+ beverage choices, and ice cream (including a really nice lime sherbert).what was a bit different here is that a large part of the seating is carousel style . . . but the sushi is not on the carousel; it is the items for the shabu-shabu / steamboat. There was certainly no lack of meat choices, and the veggies all looked and tasted fresh. The servers didn't have to do much for me, except clear the small empty plates & refill my soup broth one time. But they smiled & checked on me on a regular basis. The restaurant is on the ground floor of Lee Gardens shopping complex, so it would be easy to combine this with a trip to the cineplex upstairs, if you are facing a rainy day in Hat Yai.
Never like shopping in the centre of town which is too touristy. Coming to Big C Extra (formerly Carrefour), is very comfortable. Almost everything can be found here similar to what is available in centre of town. The only difference is in town centre there is no Japanese restaurant, a proper Japanese restaurant. This branch in Big C Extra, I think is the first branch in Hatyai. So, coming here to eat is comfortable. Also, once finish, can go back shopping again in the hypermarket.Food wise is very similar to other Fuji branches around Thailand. A standard system of operations with other branches
