A traditional Japanese Restaurant situated in Melbourneâs CBD, Kenzan has been described as a stalwart in the Melbourne culinary scene since opening in 1981.
If you have travelled in Japan you will know standards for service are extremely high. The care shown by staff in restaurants - or even cafes - in Japan is exemplary. As we entered Kenzan, my coat was taken and hung on a rack, with the number of the table on a card attached to the hanger. We chose one of each of the two choices for the set lunch bento. ($40 and $43). As we sipped sake we were asked if we'd like the miso soup now or later. In Japan, miso is served at the end of a meal, but we chose to enjoy it first, to warm us up on the cold day. The contents of the bento boxes were absolutely delicious. Both included sashimi. Amazingly soft and rich salmon, and some very nice tuna. My box included tempura, which was perfectly crisp, without being overcooked. My partner's box had chicken teriyaki, equally delicious. Both of us enjoyed the softness of the large smashed prawn dumplings and the tiny bits of salad. As we left, another member of staff immediately helped me into my coat. That's service! We have eaten at Kenzan several times in the past and never been disappointed. We'll be back, soon!

Ichi Ni Nana almost has it all: really hip establishment decked out beautifully, really great food and excellent service. All of this does however come at a price! This place isn't cheap. I cannot fault the food or the cocktails though. Went here for a celebration lunch on a Tuesday - very quiet! We did the banquet and asked the waiter to choose the dishes, we weren't disappointed. Particular highlights were the lamb cutlets, chicken karage, prawns and chocolate spring rolls for dessert. So much food! Can't wait to go back.

The staff were very helpful and attentive. They kindly tweaked the options on Banquet #2 to cater for my carnivore tenancies, and my partner eating fish.We were aided in our choice of wine, which was very good. Throughout the meal we felt looked after, with the right pace of dishes arriving. All eight courses were tasty and very well presented. We loved our time here and would go back. I may even have expanded my fish eating repertoire.

The Japanese Teppanyaki Inn (or simply The Teppanyaki, as many know it) was established in 1975 in Collins Street in Melbourne's CBD and was the first Teppanyaki style restaurant in Australia. Teppanyaki Inn continues to attract many regular customers bot
A wonderful intimate setting. Very quiet and traditional layout. Three of us enjoyed the seafood set menu. It was a very generous meal of a real mix of quality seafood, as well as vegetables and miso soup. Wonderful to watch the food being cooked right in front of you. We were nonetheless able to enjoy a night of lively conversation. A very good wine list from many Australian regions as well as overseas. We had Best Great Western Cabernet Sauvignon at $55. A fair price, given the quality. Highly recommend for a special meal for either a couple or larger group.
