Excellent service should have been guaranteed and it was, up to a point. Somehow, one of the meals didnât arrive on schedule, our Mongolian Beef had been overlooked. To start, we had the shrimp tempura combo which was decent. The mains were the aforementioned beef plus chicken with sesame sauce. Both were tasty and enjoyable and the Asahi beer complimented the meal adequately. The staff where (mostly) efficient and friendly, and the surroundings didnât offend.I enjoyed the meal, it was tasty and I left feeling satisfied with a desire to return soon.

When we arrived at Umiya, I held the door for another family, which was grumbling about the service. They weren't wrong! While our server was polite, we waited a long time before she arrived, and it only got worse from there. My husband and I ordered sake, sushi, edamame, and bulgogi, which came in a bento box with sushi, salad, and a pot sticker. The edamame took a long time to arrive, and was a little undercooked. Then the sake and bulgogi arrived -- I generally don't eat until everyone is served, so we waited. And waited. And waited. The place wasn't busy. It wasn't understaffed. We just waited. The sake was cold and so was the bulgogi by the time the sushi plate arrived. Now, the entrees actually were very good. But it was absurd how long we waited for them, and how much time elapsed between the first and second entree. Then our server plunked down our check without asking if we'd like dessert or downing anything to make up for the extreme wait, though she did say "sorry" several times. And my husband went up to tip the sushi chefs and they didn't even make eye contact with him. So, overall, not sure we'll be back. The entrees were awesome, but the service was really really poor.

This hidden gem is a locals' dream. It is not the trendiest or fanciest decor, and that is perfect. Sitting down in this small restaurant rewards diners with a more casual environment and great, personal service. We always feel very welcomed. The food is the star, with beautiful sushi plates, perfect cuts (the salmon on this visit melted in our mouths) and wonderful flavors. And for those who prefer their food cooked, you can try tempura options (the tempura veg are wonderful!), noodle bowls, cooked entrees and more. The crab stuffed avocado appetizer is a perfect example. Be sure to leave room for a little desert too. From start to finish, they always deliver, and we really enjoy the weeknight happy hour specials.

Wow what a find. In a strip center near the new Costco. Fabulous menu and wine list. Mostly asian with sushi, all sorts of rolls, tempura and more indescribable stuff. My wife and I seldom find a restaurant we REALLY look forward to visiting. This is our favorite place in the whole Austin area. Food is ABSOLUTELY great, and reasonably priced. Service is terrific. Rebecca took very good care of us. Alex the owner makes the rounds and makes you feel like a welcome guest in his home. And his perfection has spread to his whole staff. PLUS there is a terrific jazz quartet playing jazz classics on Fri and Sat. The are amazing. They play from 6 to 9 -- perfect. I had a spider roll -- cooked eel and softshell crab--wonderful tastes, and the presentation was so perfect I hated to eat any of it. My wife had the tempura and it was the best we ad ever had. Our table mates gave us a bite of their Sea Bass, and it was terrific--and the appetizer size is quite ample for seniors. TIP--sit near the front end of the sushi line so that you can gasp at the gorgeous works of art creations that come from it. Or sit closer to the band for more music. VERY highly recommended place. Oh, and they have a wine list that is like a downtown fine steak house--Alex really knows his fine wines.

Nice atmosphere and a well run restaurant. Recommend the 5wagyu beef and the chili Hamachi appetizers. Had the smoked shashimi too. Everything was perfect. This is an upscale restaurant so you will pay a premium but this is the very top of the line when it comes to the beef and sushi.
