Fujiyama is the best sushi place in Southern Illinois, but there isn't really any comparison. There are several good specialty rolls and the service is also usually good. It is pretty expensive though. The restaurant itself is inside of an empty mall, so the location is terrible. The inside of the restaurant is dirty. There are gross peeling stickers on the windows that show pictures of the food. There are always sugar packets stuck to the windows also.

Iâve been to many Japanese hibachi steakhouses, but none quite like this place. By far the most original and entertaining chef performance Iâve seen. Itâs the only time Iâve seen a tableside audience of seniors, adults, teens, and little kids all genuinely laughing and enjoying the show. Very lively, loud, and impressive. The food? Just ok. The sushi was the best part of the meal. The salad was swimming in a mayonnaise dressing and I could have done without any of the teriyaki sauce that all the hibachi food was drenched in. Portions were enormous and prices were fair. Worth it for the experience.

We were just passing through Carbondale and spotted Yamato. We were greeted by a nice young man who turned out to be our waiter. We were very impressed with his attention to detail. I have a rare medical condition called Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. Because of it I am limited to 25 grams of fat a day. So no oil, butter, salad dressing and so on. He suggested that they make me chicken and shrimp with all vegetables and teriyaki sauce. He also checked to make sure the soup did not have oil even though he was pretty sure it did not. Then he mother came out and asked me questions to make sure that they were understanding this correctly. Our food was delicious and our service was beyond superb. Hats off to 16 year old Daniel for being a fantastic waiter and teenager! We will go back the next time we are in Southern Illinois. Oh, and the prices were very reasonable.
