Shuhei Restaurant of Japan

Japanese cuisine is easily one of the healthiest on Earth, with its concentration on fresh fish, seafood, meats, vegetables and rice. The zesty sauces and delicate flavors of fresh foods compliment each other beautifully, and the methods of presentation t

I used to live in Cleveland 18 years ago, and i have been here multiple times. It was my first time visit in 18 years since I left Cleveland. They are still good. Very nice authentic Japanese dishes. Dishes are reasonably priced. They don’t have beers on tap. All beers come in bottle. It was Monday evening but there were many guests. I recommend make bookings on weekends.

This place had some rolls and other specialties that I had never seen before; they were excellent. Check out the premium maki.Everything that we had--including the drinks--was excellent, and there was plenty of it.The downsides: service was super slow. We were on the sushi side as opposed to the hibachi side of the restaurant and there were only a few tables taken. It took probably 15 minutes for edamame to arrive. They were out of the fatty tuna--bummer. Finally, the decor is supposed to be calming, but the noise level was pretty high. I don't mean the patrons either. All throughout dinner we kept hearing "in!" "out!" Isn't there a system that would prevent all this in what otherwise does not look like a short-order restaurant?I would try this again since the sushi was really great.

Pacific Grill

I hope this place continues to do as well as it is right now: being clean and providing good portions of hot food.It appears to be a modified version of the full-service Pacific East restaurant in Cleveland Heights, and menus for that location as well are available. This is more of a take-out spot; there is an area with utensils and napkins, and some seating no doubt to wait while your order is prepared, though you can eat in as well if you prefer (self-serve it appears). I had called in advance so as not to wait (warmer temps and pup accompanying me on the ride) and it was a quick pickup when I got there.Categories on the abbreviated menu include Small Bites, Salads, Soup, Rice Bowls, Noodles and Entrees. Entrees come with white rice and a salad. The small bites sounded very interesting...crispy shredded taro is one I'd try next time; I opted for the Panko Onion Rings. They were packed in a paperboard food tray lined with a paper tissue, another tray over for a lid and placed in a brown paper bag...all good for the environment and probably good at keeping them crispier. The disappointing part was that the majority of the generous serving seemed to be the ends of the onions, not so much delicate rings...edible, and tasty, none the less, but needed a sprinkle of salt. ($3.25)I also had the Shitake Mushrom, Onion &Kelp Soup (at $4.25 the more expensive soup). Even after some delay in getting home and nibbling the onions, the soup remained very hot in the cardboard container. It had an abundance of both slivered onions and sliced mushrooms in a dark broth and would be welcome on a cold night...though it was just a touch more peppery than I would like.My entree was Teriyaki Salmon ($8.95; other entrees the same up to $13.95 for snapper or seafood). Entrees come with white rice and a field green salad. It was presented in a 3-compartment biodegradable clamshell type container...I could feel some moisture in the bottom as I held it, but resolved that easily by tearing the lid off and sitting the bottom inside that for another layer. There were generous portions of all, although visually, it seemed like the salad was minimal and cramped in its compartment. It was mixed greens with the token grape tomato and cucumber slice, but seemed quite fresh and still was in good shape in spite of having been enclosed under the lid with the hot food. I'm torn between complaining about this...because I so appreciate the environmental considerations of not wasting another container and it being biodegradable. The salmon itself was a decent sized slice, along with a bit more on top, resting on some additional sauce and a bed of thinly sliced onion and carrots. The onion rings stole some of my appetite so I happily had leftovers for another meal. Note that the container of dressing, the gingery one that is typical and good, was quite small, but was enough, at least for me. No mention of desserts on the menu; no fortune cookies (although that is really more Chinese I believe) in the bag. Looking forward to trying more items; seems to be veggie friendly or adaptable in any case.My biggest issue is the lack of better descriptions on the menu, but you can visit the website to see more. The restaurant is located in Cedar Center on the northern side of Cedar and toward the western end.

No authentic Japanese restaurant would serve a second "cuisine" - in this case undistinguished Malaysian - in the same premises. The food is what people with little or no Far Eastern experience would consider "real Asian". Not worth one's while.
