I am a fussy eater and the few Italian places in Japan are really red sauce on noodles or still just a raw fish place. I expected the same from this place. However as each dish came to the table I was blown away by the taste. Even the squid ink on pasta. I can not wait for a return trip. As close as you can get to Italian outside of Italy.

オーナーシェフは、今から１５年ほど前、大阪豊中で当時、大阪最高のイタリアンと言われていた「リストランテ・カサイ」で修業をされたとのこと。敦賀市郊外にあるコンクリート打ち放しの建物は、その辺りで異彩を放っています。カルドとはイタリア語で「温かい」という意味とのことで、温かい料理がシェフの心の温かさで更に温かくなって提供されます。基本的にコースのみの設定で、夜は３８００円、５５００円、７５００円、１０５００円の４種類で、皿数と食材が異なります。どのコースにも、手打ちパスタが提供され、もちもちっとした感触が何とも言えません。イベリコ豚のロースト、仔羊のローストといった肉料理も素晴らしいですが、地元福井の魚介類を使ったお皿も素晴らしく、時には地元の名産である昆布を隠し味に使ってと創意ある料理も供されます。ワインはお店の方と懐具合も含めて相談すれば、素晴らしいワインをチョイスしてくれます。どうしても人口の少ない街である敦賀の営業なので、夜はなかなかテーブルは埋まりづらいようですが、次回は他のお客のざわめきと喧騒の中での食事も経験したいものです。

My husband and I got lost on the way to kyoto. We basically missed our stop and this is where we ended up. Hungry, we went in the first Cafe we saw outside the station. Ordered 2 beef curry rice. We got served fast but the food was horrid. Mostly rice and sauce with 2 to 3 thin, hairline tendrils of beef. Not worth it. Plus the fact that the place reeks of cigarette smoke.

敦賀でイタリアンならここかな。オシャレな店内で、きれいかつボリュームある前菜から始まって、繊細な味わいのパスタ、ジューシーな肉料理、甘さ控えめでかわいいデザートと満足のいくコースが頂けます。

Interesting, great tasting fusion food. Their business card says "Wine and Bowls Dining Room". No English menu but the staff helped me figure out a choice. I had the Grilled chicken. It came with a plate of fresh veggies and a plate of white rice. Delicious. I had a glass of draft beer. They had no Japanese sake so I then switched to a nice red wine -- I think the server said it was Cote De Rhone.

I stopped in there for a re-hydration break from walking around Tsuruga City. Had a beer and a nice glass of Italian red wine. No English menu but the nice, helpful friendly staff made ordering easy.
