it was worth it to get up there (3200 feet above sea level) - Spert town is cute - pizza choice goes from standard to extreme chef's specials - there's a pretty lady running the place and actually baking pizzas herself - snail pizza is my favourite (specially made with local snails) - sweet pizzas available - german and english spoken

This was our second time here for lunch and both times the food and service were excellent. The trattoria specializes in typical regional dishes. We had the mixed appetizer, the pasta with venison, gnocchi with smoked ricotta, and their special platter (pastin - like a hamburger sausage, polenta, cheese, prosciutto).

Just two kilometers from the Cansiglio village and not more than 15min from the St. Croce Lake, the restaurant offer a menu, not really very large but tasty and fresh.Nice speciality for the local area, called "Cimbre" as the name of the population, will make you appreciate the mountain.Generally the portion are good and the quality is high, sweets too are tasty and fresh.A good restaurant, not exceptional but definitely worth a visit.Definitely better to reserve as, there few tables.Parking for the car is just in front.

We recently enjoyed a Sunday lunch at La Cascina, which we stumbled upon by following signs leading from a main road. Pay close attention to these signs as La Cascina in not easy to find. The restaurant is very spacious and it is most suited for receptions and large groups of people and celebrations. We entered through the bar a got unusual looks from some of the locals enjoying a glass or two of wine. We walked through to the back where we found the large dining room where one half was occupied by group celebrating some special event. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table by a friendly and efficient waitress. Tables were draped with tablecloths and set with everyday service ware (utensils, dishes and glassware). A breadbasket contained bread sticks, crackers and rolls was also on the table. The daily menu listed several enticing pasta courses and entrees. The owner later told us that during the week, La Cascina features a simple lunch menu for the work force. On weekends, more elaborate dishes are featured; most of which were homemade.I started with Ravioli filled with cheese and tossed with guanciale (pig jowl) and radicchio. The portion was generous and the flavors delicious. My wife enjoyed homemade tagliatelle with a venison sauce. For an entree, I enjoyed venison served with grilled polenta and a mixed salad. The meat was tender and tasty. My wife enjoyed rolled chicken fillets, stuffed with radicchio and topped with a nice gravy. I had a homemade Tiramisu that was exceptional and my wife liked the radicchio cake.Prices were very reasonable with our above meal, plus a half liter of house wine and a bottle of water totaling 59 euro. La Cascina also has a large tented outdoor patio for warm weather days. La Cascina is closed for lunch on Wednesdays. We were very pleased a recommend this restaurant to the TripAdvisor community.

The restaurant, in addition to the classic mountain osteria with a glowing fireplace, has a nice dining room with the portraits of ancestors on the walls. Samuela prepares delicious dishes: snails of the Cansiglio, risotto with Armillaria mellea (honey mu
bit difficult to get there (need to run a navigator) - high up in the mountain (about 3200 feet above sea level) - restaurant takes you back in time, to forgotten good old flavours - if you book seats around the fire place, it will give you such a good and unforgettable experience - on top of that, food quality is superb - the guy running the place (Renzo, if I remember right) is very much indeed committed to Customer satisfaction

Good cuisine here, traditional with some concessions to modernity.Pasta rolls with beetroot and local ricotta were nice to look at and to eat, the ricotta not too intense but the whole ensemble working well in terms of flavours. Tortelli with aubergine Parmigiana and burrata and tomato juice were very balanced, well made and well cooked, the tomato juice surprisingly the dominant item for it freshness and sheer goodness). The only problem was that whatever the chef was trying to do with the aubergine skins (maybe make them crisp?), the resulting object was just not chewable...The star of the evening was a tasting dish of local (Alpago) lamb. The dish may look plain (no jus or decorations), but the cooking technique behind it is in fact very good - the meat melted in the mouth. There was (I assume) long cooked shoulder, there was belly, there was heart (absolutely lovely), there was liver, there was a breaded and fried chop, there was a raw slice with some frisee salad, and other stuff I probably forget...in sum, a lamb feast, a large dish, excellent produce cooked with skill. The restaurant is on a road, the building looks a little drab, the room is not particularly nice, and, especially, it had been a very hot day (34 Celsius) and there was no air conditioning inside. Their attempt at creating some air current by opening the windows were ineffectual. So the setting was more uncomfortable than it normally is for a restaurant with these prices. So, not recommended on hot days.Prices themselves are however, very fair for the quality and even quantity of the food. Same for wines (we had a Ca Del Bosco 2000 Dosage Zero - an Italian 'champagne'- for a very, very reasonable mark up). Service was kind, even if being one of only few tables inside, and with a full house outside, there were, let's say, some moments of neglect.

Heartfelt atmosphere and down home tastes: great Venetian speck (smoked ham), the best pumpkin gnocchi ever, combined with pleasant welcome smiles and a more than worthy red wine.Definitely to be experienced, every season makes Cansiglio - and so Genziana - a delightfully different place.

We spent a lovely family weekend in this beautiful agriturismo in the heart of the foresta del Cansiglio. The Filippon family runs the cosy place with love and care, serving excellent food. Marvellous landscape and nature to dive into, on one of the most ancient mountain in North East Italy. Weâll definitely come back!
