I have visited Alfonso's twice in the last month with work colleagues. On each occasion the staff have been welcoming and friendly, the service excellent and the food good.On my first visit I had one of their many excellent pizzas, on my second I tried the beef fillet in a porcini sauce. Both were excellent but I would caution that I wasn't asked how I wanted the beef cooking and it was on the rare side. Great for me but not for everyone so if you like it more cooked then remember to ask for it "bene cotto".I wouldn't recommend the mixed side salad which is a tad uninspired.Alfonso's is quite large and can lack in ambience, although when full of chattering locals it does have a certain family feel. Also having TV in the restaurant isn't something I would usually want although visiting as I did during the World Cup football it proved quite handy. For me the food and the great service gives it the edge over other restaurants in town and it is also very good value compared with others as well.

Perfectly located for the numerous truck drivers and tourists to this area, this trattoria provides very good food at affordable prices. They have a fixed menu lunch and dinner which includes house wine - dinner is E.12 two courses and wine! We had soup or pasta, followed by cold roast beef rare and finely sliced, lovely salad, or pork. They donât have fish, suppose that would put the prices up, but it might be available a la carte. There is a bar outside serving drought beer and wine. Local wines here are delicious.

Mrs Clelia and Mr Paride the owners, run the business, very nice location, fine decor, wide menu and wide wine selection, Mrs Clelia, very kind and patient helped us to choose local specialties, done by herself. We enjoyed our lunch in a familiar atmosphere.

My cousins invited my husband and I to dine at Trattoria Paradiso. It is probably the best dining experience ever in Italy. The restaurant is a beautifully decorated with combination of elegant handmade items, and antiques. We chose the fixed price degustazione menu, each dish was paired with the appropriate wine. Each dish was more delicious than the next. The presentation was artful. Desert was absolutely excellent. The price was VERY reasonable for the quality of this dinner. This restaurant is fantastic.

Dinner with friends. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Attentive as well. Beer was good and cold. The steak with peppercorn sauce was delicious. Tiramisu was wonderful. Would definitely dine here again.

We ordered raw asparagus salad -what a nice surprise trying raw asparagus- with quail boiled eggs and wild asparagus compote as a starter, orzotto with sclopit, which is a first course similar to risotto but instead of rice they use barley and 'sclopit' is a local wild herb, and tagliatelle with asparagus as first course, then marinated goose breast - very tender and juicy - as a second course. It was everything so good that we could not leave without a dessert. The apple and almond cake served over a warm egg cream was, needless to say, delicious. They offer a wide and excellent selection of local wines that can be order by the glass. We had Gewuerz Traminer by Gori (winery in Nimis), Sauvignon Blanc by a winery in Farra and the house Cabernet. Service was perfect and familiar. We highly recommend this lovely restaurant. We spent 70 Euros total, which is absolutely not expensive for the quality of place, food and service.

Everyone knows of Italy's food culture. It's hardly breaking news. I always tell people, though, that the three things Italy really does "off-the-hook" brilliantly are 1. coffee 2. ice cream and 3. seafood. Well, with this restaurant, you can check item 3 off your list, becuase if there's better seafood to be had in Friuli (or even Italy more generally), I have not found it yet.The restaurant is owned by two sisters, who I believe inherited it from their father (the "Balan" of the name, I think, but don't quote me on that). I've been here twice, the vists two years apart, and it was SENSATIONAL both times. It looks very unassuming from the outside, and is hardly in the most salubrious of locations - on that note, I wonder at the non-Italians who found this place totally randomly by accident, but congratulate them - but it's a longstanding favourite of the surrounding region for good reason. Excellent wine selection and knowledge, excellent service, and most importantly, excellent food. Unless you know specifically what you want, I would recommend a starter of mixed raw ("crudi") antipasti, followed by mixed cooked antipasti. You really don't want to choose between the two (it's a real culinary Sophie's Choice), so go hungry! Then I'd have whatever main course they recommend that day, but would probably lean more towards fish (what's good depends very much on what the local catch in nearby Marano Lagunare was like that day) than meat. I'm not a big dessert person, so can't really comment on that, but I feel safe assuming the desserts are similarly excellent. As a bonus, it's also VERY reasonably priced for what you get!

Visited La Lanterna with a work colleague after reading your recommendation. He had been before and been put off going by slow service so I had to persuade him.On this night service was slow but not terrible but that said there really weren't that many tables occupied.I had a pizza topped with ham, olives and salami picante which was quite delicious. My colleague had very large super prawns on a bed of spaghetti as a starter which he said were tasty but they did seem very, very fishy smelling. This was followed by tagliata di roast beef on a bed of rocket. That looked and tasted very good.Overall service on this night wasn't brilliant so I would worry about going again if it was very full. Food was good but certainly not exceptional.I think La Lanterna definitely benefits from a lack of good competition to hit the number one spot in San Giorgio

A hidden place, slightly difficult to be found in the darkness...but at the end we've got it!Thanks to TA, we were concerned and ready to taste high quality seafood and, actually, no bad surprises; a creative menu and full of classical combinations.Portions are average, quality and lightness at high level, prices ok vs quality. Staff very kind and available to deeply explain all details about each choice.Really good dishes! The restaurant contest is not so cozy...probaby in summer time the external view and the inside ambience could be nicer. Thanks a lot to the staff for their kindness.
