Things to do in Salemi

Personale gentile e comodo il servizio take away! A presto

We have been there in december. The restaurant is near the Montagna Grande and the road to reach is a country road.We ate a reduced fixed menu but we were very full at the end of the meal. The appetizer are very good and tasty. The pasta was not my favourite but it was also genuine. Meat was good although we were already full up.People are very nice and the restaurant is very tiny and was warmed with a wood stove that made the place very characteristic.

We were recommended here by a local whom we rented an apartment from. He told us he dines here, the food is good and the prices are good too. He showed me the location, and from the outside it doesn't look much and you'd hardly even know it was a restaurant. It's not flash, has plastic chairs and simple tables with a TV up in the corner on the wall, but it is bloody great "real" local food. The menu covers everything from panini's, to pizzas, to primi and secondo piatti (1st and 2nd plates). The menu "primi e seconde" covers pastas and meat dishes, poultry, pork, beef, fish. I was interested in the local cooking so we ordered, a ragu pasta dish, grilled vegetables and scaloppine al funghi. It was really good wholesome home style cooked food. To my knowledge there is only house red and white wines available, we also ordered the house red and it was just an honest quaffing wine which did the job. This place may not win awards but if you want to try no fuss local food at a great price come here and dine with the locals, we did......twice. Oh yeah.......they also do weekly specials of spleen (big around this parts) and tripe. They may be local dishes but.........I'm not game to try them, I'll leave them for the locals.

First of all Salemi is not a major tourist destination and therefore English visitors are seemingly something of a rarity in this part of the world, however whilst staying in a nearby Villa on a family holiday in late July we had, had a takeaway pizza from this restaurant. The Pizza was OK and therefore decided to book a meal in the restaurant on the last night of our holiday,Although it was very quiet apart from a local family celebration taking place we didn't receive a lot of attention and felt a bit ignored. Our meals, not cheap, were served efficiently but without any flair and the food was adequate but not thrilling. The House wine however was a bargain at only 5 euros for a carafe!Nice enough surroundings and worth a try but nothing special.

Excellent restaurant and excellent hosts/owners Salvatore and his wife/chef Sabina. Most generous host. Every thing was exceptional. The antipasta rustico, of 18-20 dishes for just 15 Euro's was extreme value for money even split with 2 of us, it was a meal unto itself. Our pasta primmi was exquisite and huge portions. They were so large, that we could not eat anymore after the antipasta and pasta, and were forced to take home our main meat dishes which we just had for brunch!!! Again, excellent. Our bill for 3 courses for 2, with a 40 Euro bottle of wine, was only 99 Euros!!! Very gracious and generous owners...gave us a bottle of their own vintage to take away with us on the house, plus a after dinner cordial on the house. While we live in London, this will be a big magnet to bring us back to Sicily!! One word of Caution!!! It is way out of civilization and it is closer to Vita...it is not in Salemi!!! It is off the road from Salemi to Vita...when arriving at the entrance to Vita from Salemi, take the most left fork in the road...(there are three roads at the fork) and initially follow the signs to Agriturismo Montagna Grande down a very rough dirt road for around 4 miles...You will come to another turn with signs to Agriturismo Grande and after another mile or so, you will finally see a sign for Ristorante Ardigna...it is an old sign and very hard to see or read!! They could definitely invest some more in signs as I am sure, many of potential customers give up trying to find it. We did not, we persevered and after multiple phone calls and then help from a lovely young local girl, we finally found it!! Also, they do need a website with a much better map!!! We are very glad we did. This Restaurant is a well known favorite of the locals and it should be considered for a Michelen Star!!! Come hungry!!!

We dined here three times during the Easter week and each time we had a fabolous dinner. They serve seafood and traditional farm food and pizzas. We tried it all and especially the seafood is sublime. One evening we had black homemade busilicate pasta cooked in the ink from octopussy - Yummi.we were the only tourists at the time and we were taken much care of. One of the staff speaks English and he was very helpful in putting the different dishes together and giving recommendations of tody's specials. We highly recommend this restaurant
