Discover Restaurants offering the best Italian food in Saint-Malo, Brittany, France. Saint-Malo, originally built as a walled citadel guarding the mouth of the Rance river, was for centuries home to feared pirates. They’ve all gone to Davy Jones’ Locker, though, and now it’s Brittany’s most-visited city. Walk the bustling streets of the reconstructed old city and the vast beaches, making sure to stop at the Grande Porte, Porte St-Vincent, the town’s castle with its Musée de la Ville and the Grand Aquarium.

We had lunch here on Easter Sunday following a recommendation from our hotel. This is a local Italian eatery owned and run by an Italian couple. On the menu are starters and pasta dishes plus desserts. As there were five of us the waiter suggested we ordered the set menu to avoid waiting too long for our dishes. Nonetheless we ended up spending more than three hours at the restaurant! This is because there was only one person serving tables. It was a shame as the owners are very friendly and proud of their restaurant.

The chef and his wife are the entire staff for this small Italian restaurant. She has very good English and a good sense of humor. Our food was very good and reasonably priced. My wife had Carbonara which was excellent. I had a sausage pizza which had very thin crust, a thin layer of tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes, a thin layer of cheese and sausage crumbled over the top. Also excellent. Nothing was too thick or too much of it like in the USA. The pizza came uncut but with a flimsy steak knife. I have never had a pizza served uncut before. So, I went autopilot and tried to cut it into wedges with the flimsy knife. This worked but was difficult. Too late, I noticed that the locals were all cutting their pizzas into small squares or rectangles! :) So, when we return to St. Malo, to Pasta and Pizza, I will again order the pizza but know how to cut it!!Seriously, we enjoyed this place and would eat here again.

We ate here at the end of August last year and I've been meaning to write a review ever since, as we had such a lovely meal. I was looking for a restaurant within walking distance of the Ibis Budget Saint Malo Centre where we were spending the last night of our holiday, and came across the review by LordLucan2010 recommending Casa Cosi (thank you LordLucan!). We arrived at the restaurant shortly after it opened for dinner and although they were clearly pretty much fully booked, they managed to squeeze us in. The service was fantastic - the waitresses were so friendly and smiley - and the starters and pizzas were all absolutely delicious. We really couldn't have asked for a better meal to finish our holiday and we will definitely be returning for our 'last night meal' this year. Highly recommend!

The Causerie, what a fabulous find in the back streets of old town Saint Malo. Thought I'd treat myself for my last evening meal, trip advisored a couple of good ones; one full, the other closed. Recalled the previous evening I'd seen a nice busy place, but had felt uncomfortable walking in so made my way there feeling braver... Walked in asked for a table for one, sat down and realised I was in the wrong place! Too uncomfortable to leave, I let the owner and chef talk me through the boarded menu, as soon as he started with the words " it's tapas, small plates" .... I was gutted as really wanted a nice proper meal (not these Crape things) as he proceeded through the menu my taste buds tickled, second small plate Burrata (my fave). I'd been to Jersey the previous week to the Michelin starred Samphire and had Burratta as a starter and was so so disappointed as they had cut this up into small pieces which spoils it by drying it out.The owner chef then pointed out two large plates and I plumped for one of those.First plate Burrata and roasted vegetables what can I say but it was just the best. A whole Burrata which when cut into oozes it creamy juice. Loved it. Second plate Penne pasta with pulled pork seasonal vegetables. This was the sweetest and moist dish of pasta I've devoured. Loved it so much I'm still tasting it on my lips 4 days later. Third plate a dessert of creme brulee with roasted almonds on the top. Also very much enjoyed. Oh and the fresh bread served in a brown paper bag was clever. All washed down by a recommended bottle of French red wine and water well, it was Easter weekend. All of around 50 euros. I can't speak highly enough of this little quirky resturant, the decor and art work give a rustic, homely, arty, techno feel (if there's such a thing) and the owner. I felt so sad that I was the only customer that evening, and sorry for those who walked past looked at the menu and walked on by (maybe they felt uncomfortable as I did the previous evening... There's a lesson here) as they really did miss out on a little bit of food heaven.
