Massimo‘s is at the top of our list of restaurants in Portsmouth, and that’s saying something, given the many, many restaurants in the area.Massimo, the owner, is a gracious host and his staff is well prepared to offer assistance and advice. The menu offers an impressive range of dishes and changes regularly enough to avoid becoming stale. Every dish that we have tried over five or six visits has been exceptional.

This restaurant's staff worked like a well-oiled machine. We found the restaurant a little too noisy....which is unusual for us to comment on. The food was average for an Italian restaurant. We probably won't return in light of all the great restaurants in this area.

My boyfriend and I visited on a busy Friday night, and we were treated to a truly wonderful meal. From our starters to our mains, everything was great. Service was friendly and helpful, so no complaints there! Their scallop crudo was one of the best things I've ever ate. My boyfriend loved his spaghetti and meatballs (their red sauce is superb, and from someone who grew up on sauce heavy Italian food, I never had a red sauce taste like the one Festina Lente makes before).

Wait persons were welcoming, warm, pleasant and efficient.Food was very good though not classic Italian. BUT noise level made conversation impossible. Choice of music (for our ears) was primitive, with unintelligible lyrics, sounding like persons in death throes...destroying the entire dining experience.AND the manager (‘Laurie”), to whom we complained, was condescending although we were very impressed by her showing us how her computer could control the sound level. Too late, however to make the four of us want to return.
