Things to do in Oshino-mura
My wife and I went here to have bit of comfort food. The restaurant is run by two people and the lady is so sweet and caring! The pizza was delicious and fairly priced for the area. Our only problem was that they take cash only and we went for dinner so the closer ATMs were closed. Overall it was a very good place!

This restaurant is in a fairy-tale like hobbit house that was designed by our waitress, the wife of a chef who specialized in the Valtellinese cuisine of northern Italy. Everything about our meals was as magical as the setting. The charm and feel of the restaurant's eccentric design and decor put us all in a good mood and the food was exquisite in presentation and taste. We could not have been more pleased with our service and the hospitality we received.http://youtu.be/0bKgWigvxTA
A restaurant that has the potential for some interesting cuisine BUT sure did not come up to par in any area for the prices it was charging! The service is extremely poor, often the staff forgot what we had asked for and we would repeatedly have to ask again. The orders came totally separate while one ate the other was sitting there with nothing to eat - and the owner took the orders! The time it took to get things to us was so long when there was no cooking required other than slicing and laying out! Also the owner/head waitress kept switching backwards and forwards from Japanese to English to Italian when we clearly spoke Japanese...quite an insult and when the message finally got across she became quite cold! The raw fish ordered had a dressing that was nigh on impossible to taste other than that it had a lemon pip to guess what might be on the fish! The pizza "hand-made" was straight out of the freezer and for ¥1,700 that was sure not a "delicious" margarita pizza that anyone would complement anyone on! very little flavour and little signature on it from the chef! The fish bass lasagne was an interesting idea but again difficult to taste for what was supposedly in it except that there were several bones in it which sure should not be in there if it is lasagne. Again way over priced. Frankly if the restaurant doesn't want return customers which is not unusual for the Yamanako area then so be it! But if it does want customers to come back or for them to recommend it, they'd better rethink things quick! It also does not take credit cards, beware! With such overpriced items then it needs to rethink that, too! Also parking is awkward and dangerous if you are on the other side of the road to the restaurant. And in the dark.Bottom line, it does stick out on the road round the lakeside but DON'T think it is necessarily any good. We would be inclined to go further on round and look for something else!Sorry but that was the experience we had, let the facts speak for themselves and then maybe in the future when things improve someone might right a better review!

We stopped for a coffee and the cloud cleared to give stunning views of Mt Fuji from the 2nd floor. The cafe restaurant is right on the lake, with tables overlooking the lake side. Great location. Double espresso was good and strong. Also popular for a beer and pasta lunch but we didn't stay for lunch.

This restaurant provided us with the most wonderful service and food. So much so we returned the next night, despite our drive for variety!

We went here mainly because I'm a vegetarian, and it proved pretty tricky in Japan, so for a hassle-free evening, we thought a familiar menu in English would be a relief. The food was OK. I ordered a pasta with napolitan sauce, which in the UK, is a dead cert meat-free option. It turns out that in Japan, it has meat in it. They were really good about it, and made me another meat-free one, once I'd explained that I'd assumed it'd be meat free. The sauce was OK, a bit on the sweet side. Portion sizes were huge so you won't go hungry.
