We chose Assaggio to meet our friends. Four of us dined here. We made reservations and were seated promptly. The restaurant had several large gatherings that night, so the noise level was elevated, and conversation was challenging. Assaggio has an interesting, upmarket menu with meats, chicken, and fish dishes. Our waitress spent a fair amount of time reciting at least a half dozen specials- that over an elevated noise level. We decided on four different entrees- mine being stuffed shrimp, also three petit filets on a bed of mashed potatoes, and two other entrees. The dinners come with side salad. We ordered wine by the glass, also our friends ordered bottled beer and a mixed drink. Wine pours seemed stingy. The side salads were sparsely dressed, garnished with pignoli nuts and cheese, and featured lettuce greens that had brown spots on them. Adding olive oil- a bottle of which was on each table- helped the flavor. The special of stuffed shrimp was promised with crabmeat, scallops, shrimp and panko crust stuffing. The shrimp were difficult to remove from the shells, and the stuffing overly breaded (not tasting of panko). The seeming star of this dish was the side of risotto, nicely cooked, but the sauce tasted sour to my taste buds. I sampled the petit filets, which, although grilled, lacked the grilled char I expect from such a steak. And serving them over a bed of mashed potatoes caused these to have a mushy texture. Service was friendly and professional. The dessert menu seemed only marginally enticing so we decided to go elsewhere for that. Overall, our experience here fell short. Perhaps the dining experience might be better on a night when the restaurant is not serving up parties in the small dining area.

After a decade I finally returned, next time I will not wait as long. This pizza was absolutely delicious. Delicious sauce and cheese just enough on a thin to medium crust that was on the verge of chewy and crunchy. At one point I actually thought the crust might've been even better than the sauce and cheese part, now that's saying something. Lots of dining space here thought you might have a problem when it's crowded. Go before six and beat the crowd. Clean place, decent service and you get what you pay for, that delicious pie!!

Italian classics and new American specials brought to you by Chef Luciano Rossitto. Vegan and vegetarian menus, along with gluten free options are also available.
Rossitto's is a nice restaurant conveniently located in Branford. The owner/chef Louis is a very nice guy who can cook as well. Always good specials, reasonably priced, great drinks in large snifters and a very friendly atmosphere. Locals like to gather here so the atmosphere is always lively. Even if you don't live in Branford this is a must try restaurant for very good Italian food.

Four of us went to John and Maria today. The service was terrific and the food was good. Calamari was crispy, pastas were good, portions were generous. Chicken Francis was fine, but not remarkable. Good family place that is kid friendly. Portions are large enough to share.

Two couples visiting the Cafe at Happy Hour.....good experience. Service on the money. We ordered some apps and an entree or two....fried calamari, pasta fagioli, eggplant rollatini, wine and cocktails. They have nice assortment of cocktails, wine and beer at HR prices......place was crowded and festive......good value....we had no complaints except it was a bit noisy for conversation.

I heard so much about this place we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere seemed cold as we sat in the front with the take out. I had a small white pie and my wife had cheese ravioli. Our friends had subs. The subs came out first. Seemed small to me but the price was small also. My wifes ravioli was luke warm and she sent it back to be reheated . I was still waiting for my pizza while everyone started eating. People at the next table who came after us got their two pies already. I was having nothing special. It was ok when it came. I would not run back. I have great pizza places in Guilford

Have been taking out pizza from this place for years. It tends to have a little too much sauce and can be sloppy. The white pizza, especially with bacon is very good. They make very good subs, we love the eggplant. No atmosphere - its mostly take out.

Itâs amazing when a restaurant knows their strengths and exactly what they want to do and then executes with perfection. That is Daltons! A wonderfully diverse Italian inspired menu, classic and creative options, all freshly prepared by a real chef. This is not cuisine thrown together or warmed up from a commissary. Every dish reflected careful attention and perfect ingredients. We tried the shrimp and pasta which was really a shrimp puttanesca. Fresh shrimp that tasted like the ocean, not the rubbery frozen nonsense too many restaurants serve. Generous amounts of capers, garlic, olive oil and a rich cherry tomato sauce made me think we were in Napoli! My partner ordered what is the finest cod dish we have had in a very long time. Two inches thick, lightly Panko coated and broiled with a spectacular lemon caper sauce and topped with crab meat, all sitting on a bed of fresh sautéed spinach. Perfectly done, really amazing. Add a creative cocktail menu, an adequate wine list (no real standouts), very nice if not a bit standard desserts, and attentive service and you got a winning night, all at good prices (not inexpensive by any means but certainly no sticker shock). We will definitely be back.
