Yes, yes they can. I had my doubts I'll be honest but we were tired of sit down formal dinning and were driving by this place so we thought, 'what the heck, why not?' Like most places in Europe everyone could speak a little English. We ordered 'The American' (or something close to that) and it was really surprisingly good. Much better than some pizzas I've gotten in the States!

Service sympa.

Via Mercato was not our first choice, we came here because another place was closed. At first we didn't even recognize it as a restaurant - from the outside it looks more like an Italian traiteur (deli shop). The restaurant is huge and not very refined : plastic tables, paper place mats and napkins, as in a factory canteen. The food (individually prepared in the open kitchen) is the same : huge portions, not bad but not very refined. Not very expensive either. Quick but impersonal service. If you're going for a quick and filling meal, this is the place. If you like something more stylish, go somewhere else.

We came across this restaurant by chance. It is located in the side street. The meal and service were excellent. We had Leffe Blonde on tap which was excellent. There isn't much choice in Lens for dining. This is little Italian gem worth exploring. If in Lens then seek out this place.

We were in Lens and were tired and hungry after a long day.We got in without a booking and our waitress was very friendly and patient with our terrible French. The pizzas are well priced and offer an interesting selection. Having chosen, we ordered and were asked if we wanted to eat straight away - we said yes and, to their credit, the pizzas arrived promptly. However, the chicken on my partner's pizza was clearly undercooked and actually raw in the middle. We pointed this out to the waitress, who at first didn't seem to see what the problem was, but she did eventually take the pizza away and return with a non-dangerous version. The pizzas were ok. Not the worst I've ever had, but far from the best.Oh, and the restaurant was really cold, too.

We needed lunch before we visited the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, which is nearby. Fooling around with the rental car GPS wasn't much help so we just carried on into town and found Le Zodiaco. An easy parking spot out front sealed the deal.France was quite a contrast at least initially driving south from Holland across Belgium. There's more terrain, highways seem less well-kept, and the landscape at least nearby to Vimy is rural and authentic. Finding this somewhat upscale restaurant was a definite plus.We ordered pizza of course, and it came quickly and was devoured quickly. The style was somewhere in-between what we'd call "artisan" here in North America and a more traditional, thicker-crust pizza. Definitely very good food. Value for money was good too, all things considered. The staff were friendly and the patio was lovely on a warm, April mid-week day. Tables were a little tightly placed together but the place wasn't too busy. Most folks were eating outside and this makes a lot of sense.I'm always a little apprehensive when I travel about a language barrier. At this place, the menu was in French and the service was in French. I didn't really try to cross the barrier since my wife speaks French and she did all of the ordering for us. I'm not sure how hard it would have been if I'd been alone. But the people were lovely here! My wife had a horrible head cold and needed some ibuprofen or tylenol... the woman who settled our bill would not let us leave until she found some tylenol to share. This was a really friendly, genuine experience. If I find myself near Vimy again, I'll stop by for another pizza!
