After climbing what seemed like an endless steep hill I made it to the castle & found the "pretty courtyard" with tables & chairs sitting in the sun. I quickly realised they belonged to the Burgschänke (Burgcafé) so my family & I decided to have a drink & a rest.There was seating available both inside & out but with the glorious weather that day we all wanted to bask in the sun. We did ask the café staff if we could move one of the tables from the shade to the sun which he agreed to. Beers were all very cheap & they even offered a shandy which tasted delicious. Wine & soft drinks were also available as well as some snacks/cake.The café is in a great location as you really do need a drink & a rest after reaching the top of the castle. I would highly recommend calling in for a drink & enjoying the scenery of the courtyard.

Popped into this pizza place soon after arriving in Kulmbach, for a quick bite to eat. A nice clean place, good for couples and smaller groups, as there are not really that many seats inside. pizza was very good, service was good. Would recommend.

Schmackhafte Holzofenpizza die es recht selten gibt. Freundliches Personal und gute Atmosphäre mit einem schönen Biergarten. Die Weinauswahl ist dürftig und verbesserungswürdig. Wie wäre es mit einem Lugana oder einem Primitivo di Manduria? Wir kommen trotzdem wieder!

THe anti pasta was excellent, the pasta dishes were all home made. The tuna sauce on veal was unusual. but it is a genuine Italian restaurant, run by the owners.

Habe einen (bzw. zwei) Hawaii-Toast gegessen, was in der Zubereitung eigentlich wirklich keine Kunst ist und so gesehen auch für eine Eisdiele machbar sein sollte. Aber der Toast war leider so gut wie komplett kalt und der Käse war auch noch nicht ansatzweise überbacken. Keine Ahnung wo der zubereitet wurde, aber ich vermute in der Mikrowelle und der Toast separat im Toaster. Und das ganze für knapp 5⬠eigentlich eine Frechheit! Auch was das Eis betrifft, muss ich sagen, schmeckt es mir bei der anderen bekannten Eisdiele in Kulmbach wesentlich besser. Hatten auch vor geraumer Zeit im Bayreuther Buonissimo u.a. einen Bananeneisbecher bestellt. Wir konnten diese Eissorte leider jedoch nicht als diese identifizieren, stattdessen konnten wir nur einen spülmittelähnlichen Geschmack wahrnehmen.Alles in allem: für mich leider nicht wieder... Schade :(

Mich wundert wirklich woher die guten Bewertungen kommen. Der Chef empfängt einen alles andere als herzlich (naja, muss ja nicht...) aber dann muss wenigstens das Essen stimmen. Ich habe als Hauptgang nur eine Pizza bestellt, aber davon wurde ich nicht satt. Diese sind wirklich ziemlich klein - bei den anderen waren sie auch nicht gröÃer. Und geschmacklich ziemlich dürftig. Gibt bessere Alternativen.

Through my client, I was booked for two nights in Da Matteo, in Kulmbach, Bavaria. Not far from Bamberg, Kulmbach has an impressive castle rising over the old village and a beautifull small old town. Almost in the middle of the old town, Da Matteo has its seat. Real Italian people running the good restaurant and to my surprise also a good lodging above the restaurant! And no, you cannot smell the restaurant! Nice rooms well equiped, you only have take care of hour own breakfast. But that is also real Italian! Breakfast facilities are next door, so no problem.
