Specializes in middle European type cuisine. Stuffed Cabbages are good. Companions sandwich was good. More indoor seating needed. Offers patio seating year round with temporary roof and heaters, but I prefer indoor seating in winter months. Free entertainment by local bands provided on various weeknights.

Aiellos has always been a favorite of mine due to the sweet sauce, its really the best of all the sauces of the stellar pizza spots on this street, i consider (Mineos and Napoli ) the other two...ive never been dissappointed when my choice brings me to Aiellos

This is a definite favorite restaurant for us in Pittsburgh - it's small, but the Italian flavors are big, with an exceptional wood fired Margherita pizza, and a great basic salad, dressed with balsamic, olive oil and shredded parmesan, both big enough for two to share, among the menu items. Award-winning gelato is also part of the restaurant's offerings, and it is delicious as well. The space seems to combine an old pizza parlor feel with a modern vibe. The prices are very good, and the staff is great. This is one of Shadyside's little jewels. I would LOVE to have this place in our town, but will have to keep returning to Pittsburgh to get the goods!

Girasole, meaning "sunflower" in Italian, is a unique family restaurant in Pittsburgh blending old world charm with an innovative, modern menu.
We were looking for a restaurant that was walking distance to Aiken and could accommodate my food allergies was tough to find so we landed at Girasole. The positives were that we were seated quickly without a reservation and the food ok. I also have food allergies and they were willing to make something for me that was plain. The negatives were that they charged us double the entree price for a piece of chicken and some vegetables (which was a surprise) and the loud and chaotic atmosphere. Servers were bumping into us the entire meal and we couldn't talk because it's so loud you can't hear each other across the table. If you like a loud restaurants and stick to the menu this restaurant might be for you. We will not be returning. Susan, we're sad to see that you weren't impressed with us. We would've happily had you placed in a different spot of the restaurant if we knew it was bothering you. That said, we hope you'll change your mind and give us another chance to show you what we're all about.Best,Patti Girasole

Italian American restaurant, located in Pittsburgh's South Side neighborhood, serving Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. BYOB! Dinner reservations recommended. Our focus is Food & Family!!
First time at this small but relaxing atmosphere restaurant. White table cloths, kitchen in view as chef cooks, excellent service by Jenn, and really delicious food, even for a non-Italian that doesnt KNOW what REAL Italian food should taste like. My Veal Parm had a delectable sauce with tender veal medallions. Wife scarfed up her Chicken Marsala. Wedding Soup was noticably homemade. My mother (her birthday), the toughest critic, wanted the restaurants name so she could bring friends. Both my mom and wife really enjoyed the Tiramasu for desert which they said was so much better than in other Italian restauarants. Fresh warm bread with tray of olives, oil and a hummus like spread. as others have noted BYOB and CASH only , no credit cards or checks. Make a Reservation for dinner !!!
Excellent sandwiches. We tried one of each: the Italian beef with a mixture of sweet and spicy peppers. (Wonderful) The Pig Latin which is sweet and savory ham. (Delicious) and the meatball with sauce. All were tasty and fit well with the soft Italian buns they were stuffed with. The chocolate and vanilla cake was super moist and delicious! Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Everything in our order was packaged well and correct!! We will definitely put this one on our list of âgo toâ places!

The place almost looks like an old tiny house from the outside. However upon walking in, it is bigger. The staff was really friendly and down to earth in their personalities. The food you could tell was homemade for two reasons. First on the menu some items it stated would take 45 minutes for. Also we waited a while. The food was worth the wait though. We got a large pizza and a hoagie to split. And all the food was good and large in size. The prices were very reasonable as well. The only downside is that there isnt a lot of parking.

I returned to Mineoâs after being away from Pittsburgh for 22 years. I frequently dined there in the 1980s and 1990s. I returned in 2019 and was happy to see that the pizza is as wonderful as I remember. My favorite was -and is-the white pizza. I ordered it with chicken and black olives. I love when the cheese covers the toppings, as it does with Mineoâs pizza. But my most favorite part of the pizza is the crust. It has the most amazing crispy texture. The only other pizza Iâve had which compares is Ginoâs East in Chicago. Notice I said compares....For me, nothing beats Mineoâs. While youâre there, try the side salad, and add the crumbled blue cheese. Perfect! Finally, all the employees are wonderful. And why not? They serve the best pizza in Pittsburgh!

The food is wonderful, can't go wrong there, but the atmosphere is a bit busy and a lot of people dining so not the place if you want a real quiet intimate dinner.
