Reviews on Italian food in Gubbio, Province of Perugia, Italy. Gubbio’s history pre-dates the Roman Empire to when it was, as Ikuvium, a major town for the ancient Umbrians. Now a city of 30,000, Gubbio has historical attractions spanning many periods. The 14th-century Palazzo dei Consoli houses Umbria’s largest collection of Roman artifacts. Gubbio’s most important date is May 15. Every year for centuries on that day, the Corsa dei Ceri has taken place: Three teams of twenty, each carrying three large wooden statues, race through the streets.

This restaurant is located right by the Bargello Palace and the famous fountain which is reputed to send people mad. Fairly informal, having a running joke with the young waiter, my Italian and his English both poor but goodwill gets you through. Some good wine options at reasonable prices, try the local Gubbio wine. Good pasta dishes though the serves are small, excellent pizza.

Our Italian hosts tools us here, probably because of the ambiance rather than the exceptional food. The food was still very good (pizza and anti pasti) and the service very good. Overall a very good experience but if Seeking a culinary experience look elsewhere

Three words: Torta al testo. It's the traditional Umbrian flatbread, sliced lengthwise and filled with greens, or cheese, or salumi, or mushrooms, or a combination. Pastas are good, too. Drink the house wine--you're in Umbria, this is not a posh restaurant. Listen to the conversations around you. You'll see construction workers on a break, seniors riding around. It's where Perugians stop if they've got business in the area. Laid back, friendly, in a beautiful place. And their torta is the reference torta.

The restaurant is not in the city center, but it is easy to reach it if you move by car. It is made by one big room, elegant but noisy, especially during the week end. So this is not the top in mind choice if you are looking for a romantic dinner! but it is very good if you are among friends. In the week end the restaurant is very often full, so it's much better a reservation, in order to avoid to wait a lot before having a table. The service is perfect. Furthermore the owner or his son come often to your table, asking you if everything is ok.My suggestion is to try pizza or meat. The pizza is made in a special way, very thin, I loved it. Meat, especially grilled, is so tender that can melt in your mouth, and the quantity in your dish is really huge! You can select also among a wide range of wines or beers. The son of the owner is a sommelier and can suggest you the right one, in according to your taste and the food you took. Definitively a place I recommend

The proprietor, Tino, did a nice job of taking acre of us. We had dinner with locals, so we did not do the ordering. We had some great wine and food, but not totally sure what it all was. Many courses and then several interesting after dinner drinks that were new to us. Sorry I do not know what much of it was, so cannot recommend much of it.

5 of us were looking for a light lunch in Gubbio on a foggy Autumn day. The place looked nice and the sign outside claimed that they serve "torta al testo" "degustazioni di salumi e formaggi" and salads. The prices on the menu looked fair so we stepped in and we ordered 2 platters of mixed salamis and 2 of mixed cheeses, 3 glasses of wine and a small bottle of water. The salamis were not specially good, but at least it was good quantity, but we were served two plates with bits of unfrequent cheese. We asked for Torta al testo instead of bread and we were said that they only had 3 bits left and that they were keeping it in case someone ordered a stuffed torta al testo... only when we said we we would stand up and go we were brought the torta al testo that was later charged 2 euros per piece!Unfriendly service, passable food, good wine, too expensive.

In the heart of medieval Gubbio, in a renovated old mill now decorated in typical style of the area, there is the Locanda del Duca. The menu of the restaurant, as well as a variety of pizzas cooked according to the teaching of N.I.P. (National Italian piz
There aren't many restaurants where you can get dinner for two, including a litre of fairly decent house white for £21 these days. After a few days of excess the simple fare of gnocchi and pizza were just perfect. Nice ambiance and friendly staff made for a perfect evening. The house breathalyser was a quirky piece of kit for a town which is mostly vehicle free. Loved it!

Stopped for lunch one day and discovered a wonderful pizzeria. Generous portion, fresh toppings, lots of sauce and cheese. I has the Neapolitan...wonderful. Husband had 4 cheese.....so much cheese you couldnât see the crust. Today a margherta with porcini mushrooms...fabulous. Reasonably priced, great service. Go...amazingly good? Wish I were in the area to go again...see them next year!
