Midweek visit. Busier than expected. That's always a good sign.Calamari cooked to perfection.Deep fried Brie was something I've never come across before but that was delicious, too. Both of us ordered pasta dishes. Delicious flavours. Very well presented. Washed this down with a bottle of Merlot.Friendly staff made us welcome and the service was excellent.

This is the home od "Leeds Society of Model & Experimental Engineers". They have a great railway track with loads of steam and electric and diesel engines running on Sundays. A nice track in the grounds of Eggborough Power Station. The guys there were really friendly and we had countless rides on different engines. Fun was had by all. You are made to feel very welcome. Great for the kids and a super way to start their interest in trains and or engineering.
What excellent value for money.Ate a late lunch which was good and prepared to order.Only recently taken over, it lacked some atmosphere and this is making potential customers miss a great restaurant.

After visiting the waterwheel numerous times (youâll see from my other review) and each time it diminishing we decided not to visit again... but after seeing it was âunder new managementâ thought we would give it another try. Well I wish we never had. Turns out itâs not under new management at all the owner felt the need to tell us his life story and how he had gone into partnership with someone and was in fact still the same owner. He told us of how bad his previous staff/chefs etc were and that Italian were too full of themselves and didnât want to change then the Thai he had were not clean and didnât stick to hygiene regs etc great!!!! In fact this guy blamed everyone for the restaurant failings yet was sat there on the phone for most of our visit when there were dirty tables from the outside elements and chairs full of brown crispy leaves that could of been brushed down and made to look inviting they had obviously been that way for sometime. The whole place just oozes neglect and has totally lost its heart and soul. The owner also told us about his previous job in âheavy constructionâ and how he could just fire one of his 100 staff there and then by telling them to simply âf**k offâ as you can tell was a really lovely visit and lunch out!!!We sat on an outside table and it was full of leaves and sap etc from trees and just general dirt you get on an outside table all it needed was a wipe with a cloth each morning before guests came but we were just shown to the table no offer to wipe it down etc. Then we were told there was no lunch menu....asked us to say what we wanted and theyâll see if they have it!!! Erm how do you choose a meal with no menu was shown a board with 3 sandwiches on and a pie told them I donât eat bread or pastry was told they can do a breakfast or scampi??!! Didnât want a big cooked lunch in 24degrees!! Was hoping for light snacks and fresh salads!! I asked for a salad and was offered ham or cheese so asked for ham I got no more than 1 slice of water thin ham cut into strips with a very small amount of salad in the middle of a massive bowl with 4 halfâs of cucumber round the edge and 4 slithers of tomato. The person I was with ordered a toastie again not on their 2 item menu of sandwich or pie and it was the cheapest of breads like the supermarket own brand very square thin bread it had been toasted in a toaster and then the cheese and tomato placed in between not my idea of a toastie. The salad was charged at £8.95 and toastie £6.95 now if these were upto standard the price would of been fair however this was diabolical and standards have slipped even further I was still hungry the portions were that small. We will never return again such an awful place and experience total waste of money. Itâs such a shame as the setting is lovely and could be such a lovely place I think this place wonât be far from closing down unless it changes completely like a new owner!!! Also an Italian male member of staff who served us put our drinks and then second time food down then stood over us for a good 15 seconds and did this 3 times which was really awkward and creepy he was literally just stood right next to us not saying anything and carried on standing there so awkward and cringe plain weird itâs a no from us and our families ever again we wonât be making a mistake like this again. I advise to avoid at all costs!!!!

We thought we'd try this little Italian and were measured in our expectations. However, from the initial welcome and seeing the restaurant it far exceeded every preconception (mainly due to location) and we loved it. The staff were attentive and looked after us really well. The restaurant itself was lovely and well decorated and fitted out. And the menu; fabulous and only exceeded by the daily specials menu. We can't wait to return to try more dishes. Hugely recommended.

Some friends recommended La Anchor, and we weren't disappointed! The owners was so helpful and friendly, there was a good selection of pizza and fresh pasta and specials. Be warned, the portions are huge, but you can take any you can't manage home :-) The staff were so attentive but not at all intrusive. A great place which is fully booked every night, with good reason. Can't wait to go back! So pleased to hear your friends recommend La Anchor and clearly you all had a great time and enjoyed our food and many thanks for taking the time to share a lovely review, see you again soon...All the Beat - The La Anchor Team.
